Saturday Quake Near Mascot Upgraded to a 3.0

An earthquake near Mascot Saturday night has been upgraded in intensity. The quake happened at 11:12 Saturday. It originally registered as a 2.7, but the USGS has since pushed it to a 3.0.

Officials say that size of quake is not uncommon, and we should prepare for more. Saturday’s quake was felt in parts of Georgia, Kentucky and North Carolina. No injuries or damage are reported.

Jessica Turner, a Geophysicist with the USGS, tells our TV Partner WVLT News the latest earthquake was too far away from the Wednesday’s to be a direct aftershock, but they could be related. However, right now they are considered separate events.

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake on Wednesday was centered near Decatur.
