Rocky Mount Spirit of the Harvest (Special Event)

Spirit of the Harvest showcases the work and experiences of the early colonial farmer and uses first person interpretation to portray the Cobb family’s anticipation of a bountiful harvest in the year 1791. Visitors to the 18th century will see displays of preparation for the harvest season, including soap, apple butter and apple cider making, as well as craft demonstrations, storytelling, music and a tour of the historic site.

Breath of Life Support Foundation Fishing Tournament (Fundraiser/Charity)

East Tennessee's top anglers are invited to test their fishing skills and compete for some serious prize money with the top catch winning a $2,000 grand prize in the Breath of Life Support Foundation's 2nd Annual Bass Fishing Tournament. Major Corporate Sponsors include The University of Tennessee Medical Center, Thompson Cancer Survival Center, Tennessee Cancer Specialists, Pilot Travel Centers, Ebenezer Counseling Center, and WIVK with the guaranteed $2,000 grand prize sponsored by Ameriprise Financial. The 1 Limit Bait Shop located in Farragut will handle pre-registrations from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on October 16 at a cost of $100 per boat.  Anglers can also register the day of the event beginning at 5:00 AM for $125 per boat including the lunker fee.  The entire fee is tax deductible.  Blast off is at first light and weigh-ins start at 3:00 PM along with a cookout. The Mountain Press is holding its first Holiday of Hope pageant benefiting Sevier County Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society. There are 12 age divisions, including a special division for cancer survivors 25 years old and up. There are six extra categories (photogenic, prettiest eyes, etc.,) that can be entered for $5 each.Early registration is under way through Aug. 31 for $20. Normal registration from Sept. 1-Nov. 6 is $25.
