The Mountain Press is holding its first Holiday of Hope pageant benefiting Sevier County Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society. There are 12 age divisions, including a special division for cancer survivors 25 years old and up. There are six extra categories (photogenic, prettiest eyes, etc.,) that can be entered for $5 each.Early registration is under way through Aug. 31 for $20. Normal registration from Sept. 1-Nov. 6 is $25. Late registration after Nov. 6 and day of event is $30.The Ambassador of Hope title will be awarded to the contestant who wins the sponsorship contest and will have their photo on the front of the pageant program.Forms can be picked up at The Mountain Press, Sevier County branches of Citizens National Bank, Tennessee Shindig, Thomas Photography and Colour Bar and Spa. If you bought a new computer system during Tennessee’s tax free holiday and want to know where to drop off your old computer, the East Tennessee Technology Access Center will accept Pentium IV computers or better. All computers must be in good working condition. ETTAC is a regional nonprofit agency that helps people with disabilities. The staff adapts computers with specialized software and hardware that are then loaned to clients to enable them to learn, work and to become more productive. All donations are tax deductible. Computers can be dropped off at their Knoxville office located at 4918 North Broadway. Praying For Lucas (MOTORCYCLE EVENT)

We will begin registration on Oct. 3, 2009 at 9:30 AM at Concord Park on South NorthShore Drive in Knoxville. The ride will be $20.00 per bikeWe will leave the park at 10:30 and ride over to Pellissippi Parkway, to Alcoa Hwy, then on to Highway 321. We will continue to the Foothills Pkwy over to US Highway 129 to Highway 411. We will then ride to William Blount Drive to Hwy 321 and end at the Shed at Smoky Mountain Harley Davidson. Entertainment will be at the Shed. If you don’t ride than please join us at the Shed at Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson for food and music staring at noon.The events should be wrapped up around 2:00 to 2:30 PM.. We are looking for as many clubs and individuals that would join us for the Praying for Lucas Benefit Ride. If you have any additional info or ideas we would love to hear them. Freshly baked pies, made-from-scratch cakes, barbecue, music and games fill the menu of this community event scheduled for Sunday, October 4, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. This year’s festival is extra special because the church founded in 1969 is celebrating its 40th anniversary. PPC will offer a sampling of some of the most mouth-watering dishes available this season. Any proceeds from food will go toward the church’s ongoing mission work with the Mobile Food Pantry, a Second Harvest program. PPC hosts a large food pantry giveaway at least three times per year in the Powell community for those in need, with no pre-qualifications.The music stage: Christian music group 3 N 1, gospel and spirituals. It’s football time in Tennessee! Come meet D.D. Lewis, a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys from 1969-1981 who played in five Super Bowls, on Sunday October 11 from 7-10 p.m. in the First Lutheran School gymnasium, 1207 N. Broadway. D.D. Lewis is a graduate of First Lutheran School and Fulton High School and is a Knoxville native. Rocky Mount Spirit of the Harvest (Special Event)

Spirit of the Harvest showcases the work and experiences of the early colonial farmer and uses first person interpretation to portray the Cobb family’s anticipation of a bountiful harvest in the year 1791. Light the Night Walk is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's annual walk and fundraising event - and the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to people battling cancer. On walk night, participants gather holding illuminated balloons a show of support from a community that cares.

If you bought a new computer system during Tennessee’s tax free holiday and want to know where to drop off your old computer, the East Tennessee Technology Access Center will accept Pentium IV computers or better. All computers must be in good working condition. ETTAC is a regional nonprofit agency that helps people with disabilities. The staff adapts computers with specialized software and hardware that are then loaned to clients to enable them to learn, work and to become more productive. All donations are tax deductible. Computers can be dropped off at their Knoxville office located at 4918 North Broadway.
