Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards and Sheryl Crow Added to Merle Haggard Tribute Concert

Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards and Sheryl Crow Added to Merle Haggard Tribute Concert

The lineup for the Merle Haggard tribute concert—dubbed Sing Me Back Home: The Music of Merle Haggard—just got a little bigger with the addition of Sheryl Crow and Rolling Stones guitarist/vocalist Keith Richards.

“Stuff happens, but you just have to be your own man, and have something to say,” said Keith in a statement. “Sometimes you meet somebody and you know instantly that you’re friends. Merle was one of those kind of cats to me. It’s another goodbye to another good friend.”

The concert will take place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on April 6, the one-year anniversary of Merle’s death and what would have been his 80th birthday.

Previously announced performers include Willie Nelson, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, John Mellencamp, Dierks Bentley, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams Jr., Toby Keith, The Avett Brothers, Alison Krauss, Ronnie Dunn, Alabama, Billy Gibbons, Warren Haynes, Jamey Johnson, Kacey Musgraves, Lucinda Williams, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Anderson, Bobby Bare, Connie Smith and Ben Haggard.

“I am so very thankful for this tribute to my husband, Merle Haggard.  Please come join me and my family at this fantastic show that Merle would be so proud of,” Theresa Haggard said in a statement.

A new block of tickets has been released and are now available at Ticketmaster and the Bridgestone Arena box office.

Go Behind the Scenes of “Somethin’ I’m Good At” With Brett Eldredge

Go Behind the Scenes of “Somethin’ I’m Good At” With Brett Eldredge

Brett Eldredge is taking fans behind the scenes of his “Somethin’ I’m Good At” video.

In a newly released clip, the handsome hit-maker takes viewers through his day on the set, which involves him causing havoc throughout his fictional suburban neighborhood.

“When we were getting the idea for this video, we were like, ‘We need like a Pleasantville, kind of Truman Show kind of neighborhood that is almost surreal and classic, but almost not real life.’ The grass is turf here, like a football field. We’re gonna have a pick-up game of football here in a little bit,” Brett jokes in the video.

“Somethin’ I’m Good At,” written by Brett and Tom Douglas, is the first single from his upcoming fourth studio album and is currently No. 35 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

Brett is currently part of Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights Tour, which will pick back up in Nashville at Bridgestone Arena on May 5. In the meantime, you can catch Brett performing at the ACM awards in Las Vegas on April 2.

Reba McEntire and Christian Singer Lauren Daigle to Release New Duet, “Back to God,” on April 2

Reba McEntire and Christian Singer Lauren Daigle to Release New Duet, “Back to God,” on April 2

Not only are Reba McEntire and Christian singer Lauren Daigle teaming up to perform “Back to God” at the ACM Awards show on April 2, but the pair is also releasing the duet to digital retailers the same day.

Reba initially recorded the song on her new album, Sing It Now: Songs of Faith & Hope, which dropped in February and reached No. 1 on both Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and Christian chart.

“I’m thrilled to have Lauren’s incredible voice add another layer to this song,” said Reba. “It’s been really special to see how people are connecting to the message of ‘Back to God,’ and I’m looking forward to our live performance on the ACM Awards.”

“I grew up listening to country music with my dad on the way to school,” added Lauren. “It is such a full-circle moment to now be singing ‘Back to God’ with Reba on the ACM Awards. This opportunity offers a new platform to share hope and redemption, and I’m excited for us to collaborate in showing the world His unconditional love.”

Tune in to the ACM Awards on Sunday, April 2, on CBS to catch Reba and Lauren’s performance of “Back to God.”

Frankie Ballard Can’t Help But Gush About His New Bride: “I’ve Got the Strength of 10 Men Now”

Frankie Ballard Can’t Help But Gush About His New Bride: “I’ve Got the Strength of 10 Men Now”

Frankie Ballard surprised the country world with the announcement that he tied the knot with girlfriend Christina Murphy on March 12. While he kept his engagement secret from fans, the “You’ll Accomp’ny Me” singer can’t stop gushing about his beautiful bride now.

“I am a very blessed man. She is my partner,” Frankie told Nash Country Daily.  “[The wedding] was amazing. Chrissy is from Austin, Texas. So we went down there to [get married] because all four of her grandparents are still alive—which is just amazing. We wanted to make sure and do it really close so they could make it. It was really amazing. I can’t say enough about it. I could take up the whole interview. It feels amazing and I’ve got the strength of 10 men now.”

This was the moment right afterward…it all went so fast🙏🏽

Little was known about Frankie’s new bride, Christina, who he met on the set of one of his videos. The actress, model, artist and business owner captured Frankie’s heart years ago. What started off as a friendship, soon blossomed into something more.

“She was an actress in L.A., and a model as well—she is very beautiful,” Frankie said with a sparkle in his eye. “She has green eyes that are impossible to not get lost in. She was out in L.A. working and I was casting for a music video. She was in this music video we did for a song called, ‘A Buncha Girls,’ a long time ago. We met on the set and I don’t know— it was a personality thing. At first, we just were joking around with each other and connected right away. It was a long-distance relationship for some period of time. You know? We managed to make it happen.”

The excitement in Frankie’s voice is evident as he continues to describe his new wife.

“She is an artist as well. Very creative person,” Frankie continues. “She has a boot company where she takes vintage cowboy boots and reworks them. She turns them into her own expression and puts them back and gives them a second life, because there are so many vintage cowboys boots out there that need a second life. She is an amazing person you know. A spirit, a pure spirit. Softens me the way I need to be softened. Like I said, just really my partner.”

The feeling of love is certainly mutual. Christina posted a photo, following the wedding, of her husband on Instagram (@oldsmokeyboots). “Mr. and Mrs. Ballard. Thank you Jesus for this man,” she wrote in the post.

As for a honeymoon, the couple will have to wait. Due to Frankie’s busy schedule, the newlyweds have been unable to find time to make that moment happen . . . yet.

“I think we are gonna save it up for the appropriate time. I am just starting to really ramp things up and the summer touring season will be under way before we know it. So it’s kind of difficult right now, but we are gonna save a few bucks and save some time. Maybe in the fall to celebrate. But we are definitely celebrating.”

Of that, we have no doubt. Congratulations to the happy couple.

Watch Zac Brown Band’s Tear-Inducing Performance of “My Old Man” on the “Tonight Show”

Zac Brown Band made their way to New York last night (March 29) to promote their upcoming album, Welcome Home, and new single, “My Old Man,” on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Produced by Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson), “My Old Man” is a throwback to ZBB’s early sound, as Zac promised when announcing the new album in September.

“We’re going in [the studio] this winter to make a brand-new ZBB record—straight back to our roots, Foundation style,” said Zac.

The new album, Welcome Home—the band’s sixth studio albumis set to drop May 12. “My Old Man,” the lead track from the album, is currently No. 23 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

“He was a lion / We were our father’s pride / But I was defiant / When he made me walk the line / He knew how to lift me up / And when to let me fall / Looking back, he always had a plan / My old man,” Zac sings in the song.

Vince’s View: UT spring practice #4 observations and notes

Vince’s View: UT spring practice #4 observations and notes

By Vince Ferrara

UT DBs / Credit: WNML photo

Here are some of my observations and notes from the fourth University of Tennessee spring football practice.

Vince’s View
*We were able to view stretching and the first three periods of practice #4 on Tuesday.

*We didn’t see center Coleman Thomas early in practice. Butch Jones revealed after practice that Thomas had surgery (appendectomy) and will be out an unknown amount of time. He said that could be one week, two weeks or unknown.

*Jashon Robertson was lining up in drills at center early in practice. It is quite possible that Jack Jones and/or Venzell Boulware could have seen reps there later in practice as well.

*Butch Jones restarted period 2 because he thought there were too many balls on the ground. He holds the quarterbacks responsible for the team and getting practice off to a good start. After that “teaching opportunity” the passing game was improved.

*The quarterbacks (Quinten Dormady and Jarrett Guarantano) are very even in terms of accuracy, arm strength, consistency, leadership and technique from when we see them. I’ve heard both have been strong in the film room as well. Butch Jones said they have done well with ball security, but also haven’t been challenged much yet by the defense.

*With Bob Shoop’s defense in year two, I expect to see more blitzing and varied defensive looks. Butch Jones talked about the defense showing the offense some exotic blitzes out of the 3-4 defensive alignment. In order to execute those looks and execute on the fly based on the looks you get, the back two levels of the defense will need to be more interchangeable. We’ve talked about who the second linebacker will be with starter Darrin Kirkland Jr. I think that will be the 2nd best guy, not just an outside linebacker because I believe those two positions will be interchangeable, for the most part. I see the same thing with the two safeties. It will be as much left and right safety as anything else where both will need to come down in the box and cover single-high over the top.

*DBs coach Charlton Warren alluded to the flexibility I mentioned when it comes to the nickel position and the 3rd (Sam) linebacker in the base 4-3. That means a LB will cover the slot at times and a nickel will have to slide back into the 3rd LB position. That means more options and not quite as concrete starting positions as you may imagine. There are plenty of bodies among the linebackers and secondary, and many look good in their uniforms, but many are unproven.

*The DBs worked on the transition from press coverage to finding the ball and high-pointing it in one drill. Many of them looked good with minimal balls on the ground.

*Nigel Warrior has stood out to me early in camp. He goes through all his drills like there’s a huge t-bone steak waiting on him at the end of the drill if he does the rep correctly. He can change direction with explosiveness, has excellent ball skills and plays with confidence. He’s still a little on the slender side, but his speed and tenacity will likely more than overcome the size. Warrior definitely has the body to add muscle and fill-out into a powerful and intimidating safety.

*Mike Canales continues to be an interesting listen at practice. He is an almost non-stop voice of technique, motivation and encouragement. Canales and all the coaches appear to be in sync with Butch Jones that they can’t afford to waste any reps with so many guys either out or limited in practice.

*Trey Smith still looks good at left tackle. We’re a long way away from the opener, but the more we see him look comfortable there, and the more his teammates, including on defense compliment him, the more you could envision him even starting the opener. Drew Richmond hasn’t looked drastically different from last year yet, to me, but the sample size is very small.

With Performance Slot and High-Profile Nomination, Old Dominion Earns a Seat at the Big Kids’ Table at ACM Awards

With Performance Slot and High-Profile Nomination, Old Dominion Earns a Seat at the Big Kids’ Table at ACM Awards

If last year’s ACM Awards was Old Dominion’s coming-out party, this year’s 52nd annual show will find the lovable quintet taking a seat at the “big kids’ table.”

“It feels like next-level stuff because we’re not the new kids anymore,” says Old Dominion’s lead singer Matthew Ramsey. “We’re actually part of the party. And then we got asked to do a performance and it’s like ‘Whoa, we really are a part of this now.’”

Speaking with Nash Country Daily as the band heads to Las Vegas for Sunday night’s (April 2) ceremony, Matthew says the band—known for quirky hits like “Break Up With Him,” “Snapback” and “Song for Another Time”—was invited back to this year’s show in a big way after winning the 2016 trophy for New Vocal Duo/Group of the Year.

This time they’re nominated in one of the night’s heavyweight categories—Vocal Group of the Year—and they’ll give a full performance instead of the 90-second quick-hitter they delivered last year. It’s just more evidence that the band has broken through to country’s mainstream, and now the nerves are starting to set in.

“Last year when we played, it was such a short, little thing that I didn’t really get nervous until we got done,” Matthew admits. “We were walking offstage and I was like ‘That just happened!’”

They’ll play ALL of their brand-new single, “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart,” at this year’s show, giving many fans the first taste of their hotly anticipated second album—and the follow-up to 2015’s deliriously fun Meat & Candy.

Full of inspiring lyrics and sung with bold enthusiasm, Matthew and company will unleash “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart” on the same stage as superstars like Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood and Chris Stapleton, but since they were only asked to do it a week ago, they’re still not even sure what to expect. Luckily, they’ve been playing the new song in their sets on tour.

“At least we wont be learning the song on the big stage,” Matthew says.

As for their nomination, the lighthearted singer/songwriter figures he and the band have about a snowball’s chance in hell of beating Little Big Town—“the juggernauts” of the field have won the Vocal Group prize at three of the last four ACMs. But that’s fine by him—just hearing their name called in the same breath as those stars will be “mind-bending,” says Matthew.

In addition to their ACM Awards show performance, the group has a spot on the ACM Pool Party for a Cause stage on April 1, as well as countless interviews and other appearances, so Matthew says visiting Sin City won’t be much of a vacation this year. But now that Old Dominion has been admitted to the club, Matthew is ready to take care of business.

“It’s a lot of business,” he says. “But our business is a fun one.”

Old Dominion’s second album is tentatively slated for release later this year. Shane McAnally, who produced Meat & Candy, is once again producing Old Dominion’s new album.

The 52nd ACM Awards air live Sunday, April 2, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
