Reba Says She’s “Thrilled With the Girls Getting Back in There” for CMA Entertainer of the Year: “Carrie Has Worked Her Tail Off”

When the nominations for the 54th annual CMA Awards were announced on Sept. 1, both Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert earned CMA Entertainer of the Year nominations. This marks the first time two solo female artists have been nominated for the award in the same year since Crystal Gayle and Barbara Mandrell in 1979.

Eric Church, Luke Combs and Keith Urban round out this year’s nominees in the most-coveted category, but one former Entertainer of the Year thinks it’s Carrie’s year to shine. Reba McEntire, who won the CMA Entertainer of the Year award in 1986, shared her thoughts on the subject during a media round-robin interview on Sept. 3.

“I’m thrilled with the girls getting back in there,” says Reba. “The thing that we have to realize and remember, whether it’s a male or female, the song usually drives the situation—it drives the boat. So when anybody has such a great song that can keep them in front of the public for a while—because there’s so much competition—that’s the thing. And then them coming in with the hard work and the creativity to do different things year after year. Carrie has worked her tail off. I’ve watched her. I’ve watched her show. I’m very impressed with how much work she puts into her production and to her creativity, whether it’s the people who surround her [during] her concerts or her costuming—she puts a lot of thought into it. She sings her butt off, so I’m very, very proud of Carrie coming in and working so hard and representing country music.”

Tune in to the CMA Awards on Nov. 11 to see who takes home the trophy for Entertainer of the Year and more.

Listen to Justin Moore’s No. 1 Hit, “Somebody Else Will,” From Upcoming Live Album

Justin Moore will commemorate his first headlining show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium in May 2018 by releasing a new album, Live at the Ryman, on Sept. 25.

The 17-song album features many of Justin’s fan-favorite No. 1 hits, including “Small Town USA,” “You Look Like I Need a Drink,” “Somebody Else Will” and more, as well as covers of Waylon Jennings’ “I Ain’t Living Long Like This” and Hank Williams Jr.’s “Country State of Mind.” Special guests Chris Janson, David Lee Murphy, and Ricky Skaggs and The Whites are featured on the album.

“A live album is something I’ve always had a desire to record and have out for our fans,” says Justin. “We had the chance to record our Ryman show last year. The crowd was unreal. The venue, as we all know, was great, as it always is. Luckily, I didn’t screw it up. In all seriousness, the energy we were able to capture that night, was electric. In this strange time with no live music, I thought this could be fun for our fans right now. Crack a cold one around the house, a campfire, deer camp, the beach and enjoy some live music. Hopefully, we have the chance to do it in person soon. Until then, enjoy this live album from my band, my crew, and myself from the Ryman.”

Penned by Kelly Archer, Adam Hambrick and Tebey Ottoh, “Somebody Else Will” topped the country charts in 2018. Listen to Justin perform “Somebody Else Will” from Live at the Ryman below.

Carly Pearce Warns Against Smooth-Talking Guys in New Banjo-Filled Single, “Next Girl” [Listen]

Carly Pearce Warns Against Smooth-Talking Guys in New Banjo-Filled Single, “Next Girl” [Listen]

Carly Pearce is following up her 2020 No. 1 single, “I Hope Your Happy Now,” with the release of “Next Girl.”

Penned by Carly, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, “Next Girl” will impact country radio on Sept. 28. The single represent Carly’s first new music without producer busbee—who passed away in September 2019—by her side. It also represents Carly’s first new music since her divorce from Michael Ray after less than a year of marriage.

“Country music always had these straight-talking women, who were so strong and so sassy,” says Carly. “They were flirty, funny, feisty—and they weren’t afraid of banjos, fiddles, mandolins, steel guitar. Put all those things together, and it’s everything that pulled me to country music as a little girl.”

The new banjo-filled tune serves as a word to the wise regarding smooth-talking guys, as Carly sings: “I bet you probably met him at a bar, let him walk you to your car / I bet he said he never falls this hard, yeah, I remember that part / He knows how to say all the right things, knows how to get you out of that dress / Knows how to make you think you’re the best thing / But I know what happens, next . . . girl.”

“We live in a world where there are so many smooth-talking guys who’re so quick to sweep you off your feet—and they always have a story about the girl before,” says Carly. “So when we were asking ourselves, ‘What would Patty Loveless do?’ we figured not only would she warn the girl, she’d turn over all the cards: how he works, how he talks about the old girlfriend, what he’ll do once he’s got her . . . Josh and Shane know how guys like that work, so we had so much fun carving this song out. Then when it came time to get in the studio for my first real music on my own without busbee, I was a little nervous, but it was also so exciting because as the tracks started going down, I realized: This is who I am at my core. This is the music that flows through my blood, that comes out of my pores. It’s everything I love and loved all in one song, and when it’s rushing by, it just feels good.”

Alabama With Martina McBride

Alabama With Martina McBride

The third time is the charm . . . hopefully.

Alabama is rolling on with two newly announced stops in Nashville in 2021 as part of their delayed 50th Anniversary Tour. The trio is set to perform at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on July 2 and July 3 with special guest Martina McBride.

After postponing more than 25 shows on their 50th Anniversary Tour in 2019 as frontman Randy Owen dealt with vertigo and migraines, Alabama planned to resume their tour in 2020, however, the COVID-19 pandemic put a kibosh on their plans. Alabama’s show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena was originally scheduled for Nov. 20, 2019. It was rescheduled for July 17, 2020, with an additional date set for July 18, 2020. Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie Daniels, who died on July 6, was slated to join Alabama at both Nashville shows.

Now, Martina McBride will join Alabama for their two-night Nashville stint. Additional tour dates will be announced in the coming months. Tickets are on sale now.

Scotty McCreery to Release New Wife-Inspired Single, “You Time,” From Upcoming 5th Studio Album

Scotty McCreery to Release New Wife-Inspired Single, “You Time,” From Upcoming 5th Studio Album

Scotty McCreery will try to score his fourth consecutive No. 1 single with the release of “You Time” on Sept. 23. The new track will serve as the lead single to Scotty’s upcoming fifth studio album, which will be announced soon.

Penned by Scotty, Frank Rogers and Aaron Eshuis, “You Time” serves as a love letter to Scotty’s wife, Gabi. The uptempo tune finds Scotty crooning: “I need a little you time, you time / Red wine sippin’ in moonlight / Your touch, your skin / Your lips kissin’ on me all night / I ain’t tryin’ to monopolize / Your 24/7, 365 / But sometimes I need / Just a little bit of me and / You time, you time, you time.”

“I am so excited about releasing new music, especially a song that makes me think of Gabi and puts me in a joyful mood,” says Scotty. “I think we can all use a smile right now.”

Scotty will debut the new song during his concert at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on Sept. 4. “You Time” follows three consecutive No. 1 singles—“Five More Minutes,” “This Is It,” and “In Between”—from Scotty’s fourth studio album, Seasons Change, which debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Country Album chart in 2018.
