Cocke County, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – A Cocke County man has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals after deputies say he killed a dog and intended to eat it. According to the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report on May 20 in Newport. A witness directed authorities to a nearby home, where investigators spoke with Eddie McCoig.
Deputies say McCoig admitted he shot the dog, slit its throat and skinned it, planning to consume it. Authorities recovered the dog’s remains from a cooler on the property.
The sheriff’s office also removed three additional dogs from the home. McCoig was taken into custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
