Tennessee – (WOKI) – Tennessee voters will choose a female governor for the first time in the state’s history this November, as Republican Marsha Blackburn and Democrat Jerri Green square off in the general election.
The matchup follows primary victories that clear the path for a landmark contest. Blackburn, 74, secured the Republican nomination, leaning on her extensive legislative resume as a two-term U.S. Senator and former U.S. Representative. Her platform centers on driving statewide conservative growth.
On the Democratic side, 48-year-old Green locked down her party’s nomination. Green approaches the race with a localized executive and judicial background, having served as a Memphis City Councilwoman, Chief Public Defender, and policy advisor, with a core campaign emphasis on municipal reform.
With incumbent Governor Bill Lee term-limited, the race moves forward to the November 3rd general election, where voters will officially break a centuries-long glass ceiling in executive leadership.
