KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Following a dominating 45-24 road win at Georgia Tech, Tennessee vaulted multiple spots in both polls, rising to No. 14 in the AFCA Coaches and No. 15 in the Associated Press Top 25 Sunday.
The Volunteers climbed four places in the Coaches poll and three spots in the AP poll. Tennessee is off to a 2-0 start for the fifth consecutive year under head coach Josh Heupel. It’s the longest such streak for the Vols since starting 2-0 in 11 straight seasons from 1924-34.
Tennessee rushed for 299 yards, forced two turnovers and did not commit any en route to a 20th consecutive regular season victory over a non-conference opponent.
The Vols have been ranked in 66 of the last 67 weeks of the Coaches poll dating back to Sept. 11, 2022. They improved to 36-6 under Heupel against teams who were unranked.
Tennessee closes its non-conference regular season slate against Kennesaw State (1-1) at 7:45 p.m. ET Saturday inside Neyland Stadium, which is sold out for a 29th consecutive game. The contest will serve as the Volunteers’ annual “Salute to Service” game presented by Standard Nuclear. “Salute to Service” honors our nation’s service members, veterans and their families.
