Sevier County, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – Sevier County Fire-Rescue responding to Tyler Basler that caused damage to a structure and threatened a nearby property, according to Tyler Basler with Sevier County.
Fire crews were initially dispatched to the 1000 block of Dudley Drive for a reported fire. When they got there, crews found a working brush fire that was reaching a nearby structure and camper.
Basler said while crews were working on the Dudley Drive brush fire, they saw heavy black smoke coming from an area approximately two ridges away. Responding crews determined the smoke was coming from a structure fire and a brush fire in the 800 block of Haney Road.
According to Basler, crews worked to get control of, and put out, both fires. The Dudley Drive fire burned approximately 0.42 acres and caused minor damage to the structure and camper. The Haney Road fire burned approximately 0.50 acres and resulted in the complete loss of one structure.
Basler said both fires were determined to have been caused by unauthorized burning.
Sevier County officials want to remind residents and visitors that burn permits are required from Oct. 15 through May 15 and can be obtained here.
Only natural materials such as leaves, limbs and vegetation should be burned.
