TELLICO PLAINS, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones said a suspect has been arrested and charged after an attempted burglary at a museum last month.
According to Jones, the suspect, who was not identified, attempted to burglarize the Charles Hall Museum in Tellico Plains on April 24.
Investigators spoke with a man at a home on Scott Street and used evidence from home video, social media and statements to develop probable cause to believe he was involved in the attempted break-in, Jones said.
While searching his home, Jones said detectives found evidence that included pictures, Snapchat messages and security footage showing him returning home in similar clothes worn by the suspect after the incident.
As a result, he was arrested, but Jones said he became combative and made threats of further harm upon his release from jail. He has been charged with attempted burglary.
Jones said the investigation remains ongoing to identify anyone else who may have been involved. Anyone with information is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 423-442-3911.
