Knoxville, TN (WOKI) — The Knoxville Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, June 5, in West Knoxville.
According to KPD, officers will staff the checkpoint along Kingston Pike as part of an ongoing effort to reduce impaired driving and improve roadway safety.
Officials say the checkpoint is designed to deter motorists from driving under the influence, prevent serious or fatal crashes, and increase public awareness about the dangers and consequences of impaired driving.
During the checkpoint, officers will stop drivers to look for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Police note that impairment may have been a contributing factor in at least seven fatal crashes in Knoxville in 2025.
KPD will use a DUI checkpoint trailer obtained in 2022 through a Tennessee Highway Safety Office Traffic Services grant. The equipment came at no cost to Knoxville taxpayers.
The department’s most recent sobriety checkpoint took place April 24 in the Fort Sanders area, resulting in one DUI arrest.
KPD reminds drivers to practice safe habits at all times, including slowing down, wearing seatbelts, limiting distractions, and never driving under the influence.
