KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) – Motorists traveling in Union County should prepare for traffic impacts as construction crews work on improvements along State Route 33.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced that Raccoon Valley Road will be closed at Maynardville Highway (State Route 33) beginning at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday, June 26.
The closure is necessary to allow crews to build and connect a new roadway alignment as part of ongoing construction in the area. During this time, Maynardville Highway will remain open to traffic.
Drivers traveling westbound on Raccoon Valley Road will be detoured to State Route 61 to navigate around the work zone.
TDOT expects the closure and traffic pattern to remain in place through 6 a.m. on Monday, June 29, although officials note the schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.
Motorists should anticipate delays and are urged to use caution while traveling through the area, as construction workers will be present.
TDOT is also reminding drivers to plan ahead and stay informed using available travel tools. Real-time updates can be found through the TDOT SmartWay system, and travelers can dial 511 for the latest road conditions.
Officials emphasize the importance of safe driving in work zones, urging drivers to avoid distractions and stay focused behind the wheel.
Additional information about the project is available through the TDOT website, https://www.tn.gov/tdot..
