KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — Drivers in Knoxville are seeing some relief at the pump just in time for the busy Independence Day travel period.
According to AAA, gas prices in Knoxville have dropped to an average of $3.47 per gallon, down more than 12 cents compared to last week.
Statewide, the average price for regular unleaded is now $3.50, a 10-cent drop over the past week and about 70 cents cheaper than a month ago. Tennessee remains one of the least expensive fuel markets in the country.
AAA spokesperson Megan Cooper says falling crude oil prices are helping drive costs down, giving drivers a break as travel ramps up.
More than 1.6 million Tennesseans are expected to travel during the Independence Day holiday period, with over 1.4 million choosing to drive.
Despite higher travel costs overall, this year is expected to set a record for Fourth of July travel in Tennessee.
Prices could continue to fluctuate as demand increases and global oil conditions evolve.
