ALCOA, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) – A multi-vehicle crash Wednesday morning shut down a section of Alcoa Highway and left two people injured, including one person reported to have suffered severe injuries.
According to the Alcoa Police Department, the crash involved three vehicles at the intersection of Alcoa Highway and Airbase Road.
The collision caused significant damage, breaking two power poles and bringing down power lines across the roadway. As a result, all northbound and southbound lanes of Alcoa Highway were temporarily closed.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and two people were transported to the hospital for treatment. Police said one of those individuals suffered severe injuries. No additional information about the victims’ conditions has been released.
The crash also impacted electrical service in the area. Shortly after the incident, Alcoa Electric reported that nearly 2,500 customers were without power. Utility crews worked to restore service, and all outages were resolved by approximately 10:15 a.m.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation directed motorists to use Pellissippi Parkway as an alternate route around the crash scene while crews cleared damaged utility infrastructure and investigated the collision.
Officials said the roadway is expected to remain closed for an extended period while repairs and cleanup efforts continue.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
