SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI) – Drivers in Sullivan County should prepare for significant traffic impacts as a major roadway improvement project gets underway on State Route 347.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation announced that State Route 347 (Lone Star Road) is now closed between Christy Drive and Potato Hill Road while construction crews install a new culvert at Bear Creek.
The closure is expected to remain in place until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, although officials noted the schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions.
During the closure, motorists will be directed to use State Route 347 and U.S. Highway 11-W as a detour around the construction zone.
TDOT officials said the project is necessary to improve infrastructure along the roadway and ensure proper drainage in the area.
Drivers are encouraged to allow additional travel time, follow posted detour signs and use extra caution while traveling near the work zone.
Officials also reminded motorists to watch for construction equipment and workers who will be present throughout the project.
No additional traffic changes have been announced at this time.
