KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT)– A Knoxville man is facing murder charges following an investigation into a drug overdose death that occurred in late 2025.
According to the Knoxville Police Department, a Knox County grand jury indicted 26-year-old Melvin Hill in late June on charges of second-degree murder and delivery of methadone.
The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Drug Related Death Task Force into the overdose death of a 20-year-old at an apartment on Pascal Drive in December 2025.
Investigators determined there was sufficient evidence to seek charges against Hill in connection with the fatal overdose.
Following the indictment, Hill was taken into custody on July 5 by officers with the Knoxville Police Department’s Community Engagement Response Team.
Authorities have not released the identity of the 20-year-old victim.
The case remains part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute drug-related overdose deaths in Knox County.
Hill is expected to face the charges in Knox County Criminal Court.
