KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — The Knoxville Police Department says a North Knoxville nightclub has been closed following the discovery of numerous code and fire occupancy violations.
According to KPD, Broadway VIP, located at 2314 North Broadway, was effectively shut down late last week after what officials described as extensive coordination between the Knoxville Police Department, Knoxville Fire Department, Codes Enforcement, and other city departments.
Police said the nightclub had become the source of numerous public safety and quality-of-life complaints from the surrounding community.
The business was also connected to a violent incident earlier this summer. Investigators say a shooting at the club on June 13 left Deont’e Wilkins critically injured. The suspect in that case, Jaheim Houston, is scheduled to appear in court for a status hearing on August 12.
According to KPD, Broadway VIP was operating without the required permits and continued operating despite receiving notices to vacate on at least two occasions.
Officials said power to the business was disconnected after an inspection revealed multiple code and fire occupancy violations.
The closure was formally upheld during a hearing before a public officer on July 31, according to police.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the specific violations that led to the closure.
