Knoxville, TN (WOKI) – The Knoxville Police Department is investigating after a woman was found dead near a roadway in East Knoxville on Wednesday afternoon.
According to KPD, officers were dispatched shortly after 1 p.m. to the 1600 block of Wilson Road after reports that a woman had been found deceased near the road.
Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
KPD’s Investigations Bureau detectives and personnel from the Regional Forensic Center responded to assist with processing the scene and gathering evidence.
At this time, police have not released the identity of the woman, and authorities say the cause of death remains unconfirmed.
Investigators have not indicated whether foul play is suspected and have emphasized that the case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
Police say additional information will be released as detectives continue working to determine what led to the woman’s death.
