KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — Visitors to the Forks of the River Wildlife Management Area and the Will Skelton Greenway will face temporary access restrictions this week as the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency closes the main access road for repairs.
The closure begins at sunset on Sunday, August 16, and will remain in effect while crews repair multiple potholes and reinforce sections of the roadway that have seen heavy year-round use.
The affected area stretches from the end of the asphalt on McClure Lane to the adjacent parking lot serving the wildlife management area and greenway. During the project, no motor vehicles, bicycles, or pedestrians will be permitted beyond the posted road closure signs.
TWRA officials say the temporary shutdown is necessary to protect both the public and construction crews while the improvements are underway.
Roadwork is scheduled during the week of August 17 and is expected to be completed by Thursday, August 20. TWRA is also coordinating with the City of Knoxville Highway Department to assist with the project because of the high volume of visitors who use the area.
The agency says the improvements will provide a safer, more durable roadway for hunters, anglers, outdoor enthusiasts, and users of the popular Will Skelton Greenway.
TWRA apologized for the temporary inconvenience and encouraged visitors to plan accordingly until repairs are finished.
