KNOXVILLE, TN (WOKI) –
The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a suspected fatal hit-and-run after the remains of an unidentified woman were discovered near the roadway in East Knoxville last week.
According to KPD, officers were dispatched at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, to the 1600 block of Wilson Road after Public Service crews reported finding a deceased woman in the area.
Homicide Unit detectives and personnel from the Knox County Regional Forensic Center responded to the scene to begin an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Based on evidence gathered so far, investigators believe the woman was struck by a vehicle. Police say the driver left the scene and did not report the crash.
The investigation remains active, and detectives are continuing to pursue leads. No arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed in connection with the case.
Authorities are also working to positively identify the victim. KPD said identification efforts are continuing and are pending further examination by the Regional Forensic Center.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have information about the incident or who may have seen suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
