Jefferson County, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – A 63-year-old White Pine man who had been reported missing has been found dead, according to the White Pine Police Department.
Investigators identified the man as Billy Hollifield, a longtime White Pine resident known throughout the community.
Police said Hollifield was found around 9:50 p.m. Sunday in the back seat of a vehicle parked behind a business along State Street.
The discovery came after community members expressed concern when Hollifield had not been seen for several days. According to authorities, he was a familiar face in White Pine and was frequently observed walking throughout town, especially in the State Street area.
Investigation Underway
Detectives said preliminary information indicates Hollifield may have entered the vehicle around midday on Saturday, Aug. 15, while storms were moving through the region.
Authorities have not released additional details about why Hollifield entered the vehicle or what may have contributed to his death.
At this time, investigators say there are no indications of foul play.
Medical Examiner Assisting
The White Pine Police Department is continuing its investigation alongside the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Officials said the investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Hollifield’s death.
