JACKSBORO, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is examining the circumstances surrounding the death of a Campbell County inmate following a reported medical emergency.
According to the TBI, the agency was asked by 8th Judicial District Attorney General Jared Effler to investigate the incident involving 51-year-old Penny Annette Rector.
Authorities said Rector was transported from custody to an area hospital on Thursday evening after reportedly experiencing a medical emergency.
Investigators said Rector later died at the hospital on August 21.
At this stage of the investigation, officials have not released additional details regarding the nature of the medical emergency or the events leading up to her hospitalization.
Autopsy Ordered
The TBI said Rector’s body has been sent for an autopsy as authorities work to determine the cause and manner of death.
Results of the examination have not yet been released.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation emphasized that the case remains active and ongoing.
As with all TBI investigations, agents will gather evidence, conduct interviews, and submit their findings to the district attorney’s office for review.
