KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) – Students and staff at Chilhowee Intermediate School were temporarily evacuated Wednesday morning after a reported bomb threat prompted a response from the Knoxville Police Department.
According to KPD, officers responded to the school around 9 a.m. after receiving information about a possible bomb threat.
As a precaution, school officials evacuated students and staff to an indoor off-campus location while law enforcement conducted a thorough search of the building.
The Knoxville Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit and K-9 officers were called in to assist with the investigation. Authorities searched the school and surrounding area for any potential threats.
Following the search, police determined that no suspicious devices were present. Investigators later concluded that the threat was not credible.
With the school cleared, students and staff were allowed to return, and normal operations resumed at approximately 10:45 a.m.
Officials said the evacuation was carried out out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of everyone on campus while officers investigated the report.
No injuries were reported, and the incident remains under investigation.
