NASHVILLE, TN (WOKI /WVLT) – A Nashville judge has extended a temporary restraining order against Bryan Seaver, a nephew of country music icon Dolly Parton, as a legal battle involving Parton’s estate continues to unfold.
The ruling came after attorneys representing She’s Alive, the entity established to manage and protect Parton’s estate and legacy, submitted new court filings alleging Seaver attempted to avoid being formally served with a lawsuit.
According to court documents filed this week, Seaver allegedly erected obstacles around his property, including no-trespassing signs, barbed wire and yellow caution tape, in an effort to prevent delivery of court papers.
The filings included photographs that attorneys claim show the measures taken around the entrance to Seaver’s residence.
Seaver has asked the court for additional time to obtain legal representation before responding to the lawsuit. A hearing had been scheduled for October 9, but attorneys for Parton’s estate opposed the request and sought to keep protections already ordered by the court in place.
On Tuesday, a judge granted an extension of the temporary restraining order and rescheduled the next court hearing for October 20.
The restraining order was originally requested by She’s Alive, the organization responsible for protecting the business interests and legacy associated with Dolly Parton. The entity is headed by longtime Parton manager Danny Nozell.
Court filings accuse Seaver and his company, Squadron Augmented Protection Services, of sending threatening communications, making financial demands and threatening harm to Parton’s reputation, legacy and business operations.
The lawsuit alleges behavior that estate representatives say required immediate court intervention to prevent potential damage while the case proceeds.
Seaver has not publicly responded in court filings to the specific allegations regarding threats against Parton’s legacy. The legal dispute is expected to continue later this month when both sides appear before the court.
Dolly Parton, one of Tennessee’s most recognizable cultural figures, has not publicly commented on the ongoing litigation.
