ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI) — A second person has been charged in connection with the murder of a Ten Mile man earlier this year, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
TBI agents, working alongside the Roane County Sheriff’s Office, announced the arrest of Mitchel Crass, 43, following a lengthy investigation into the death of Elton Richardson, 44.
The investigation began on January 27 at the request of 9th Judicial District Attorney General Russell Johnson after Richardson was found dead in the 4600 block of Decatur Highway in Ten Mile.
During the course of the investigation, authorities identified Crass as one of the individuals allegedly responsible for Richardson’s death.
On Monday, the Roane County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Crass with:
- One count of First-Degree Murder
- One count of Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Murder
- One count of Conspiracy to Commit Tampering with Evidence
Crass was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Roane County Jail. Authorities say his bond has been set at $865,000.
The arrest marks the second made in connection with the homicide investigation. Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding Richardson’s death or the identity of the first person charged.
The investigation remains ongoing.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
