Chandler Garners SEC Freshman of the Week Honors

Following two standout performances in his first two collegiate games, Tennessee freshman point guard Kennedy Chandler was named SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
 
Chandler averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in the Vols’ wins over UT Martin and ETSU. He shot 68.4 percent (13-of-19) from the field and made 85.7 percent (6-of-7) of his 3-pointers during the two games.
 
In his Tennessee debut on Tuesday against UT Martin, Chandler shot 4-for-4 from 3-point range in his collegiate debut to finish with a game-high-tying 20 points and a team-high-tying four assists.

On Sunday against ETSU, Chandler scored all 16 of his points in the first half, shooting 6-for-9 from the field, dishing out a team-high six assists and pulling down five rebounds.
 
Through two games, Chandler leads the Vols in scoring average, field goal percentage and assists.
 
Tennessee players have now garnered 19 SEC weekly awards during the tenure of sixth-year head coach Rick Barnes.
 
Chandler and the 17th-ranked Vols return to action Saturday in Uncasville, Connecticut at the Hall of Fame Tip-Off, taking on No. 5 Villanova at 1 p.m. on ESPN News.
