A Man is Arrested Following Standoff in Morristown

Morristown, TN (WOKI) – Members of the Morristown Police Department (MPD) Criminal Apprehension Unit along with MPD Special Response Team, and officers did locate and arrest 38-year-old Roy Ray Herron following a standoff at an apartment complex in west Morristown on April 17, 2025.

Herron was wanted for Contempt of Court in Hamblen County with additional warrants in Sevier County. MPD Criminal Apprehension Unit members did witness Herron at the apartment; knowing Herron had outstanding warrants they attempted to take him into custody without incident. Herron then fled inside the apartment where he barricaded himself. Due to prior knowledge of Herron’s violent tendencies, MPD Criminal Apprehension Unit members held perimeter until members of the MPD Special Response Team, and patrol officers responded. Once additional personnel were on scene, officers attempted to communicate and call him out of the residence via loudspeaker; however, Herron was uncooperative. Following a standoff, there was an intense search of the apartment, he was seen entering earlier in the evening, where Herron was located in the attic. He was taken into custody without further incident.

In addition to the outstanding warrants, Roy Herron is being charged with Evading Arrest and Resisting Arrest.
