An Animal Cruelty Case Leads to Arrest and Charges of Teen in Sevier County

A Sevierville man is charged with animal cruelty after reportedly strangling one dog and hitting another with a hammer.

Deputies with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office went to a home on Pullen Road on Saturday after being told a man was hitting a dog and pointed a gun at a woman.

The woman said 19-year-old Jonathan Jones grabbed a pit bull using a slip leash and strangled it after it got into a fight with a husky. He also hit the dog in the face with a stick and shoved it down the dog’s throat.

Deputies say the dog was in distress and had cuts on its face and blood coming from its mouth.

Jones reportedly hit the husky with a hammer in the head and body to discipline it. She showed them a video of the dog being abused and said Jones threatened to kill her if she tried to intervene with the abuse.

Animal control took the dogs due to their injuries from abuse. Jones was taken into custody and charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.
