Knoxville, TN (WOKI) – Knoxville City Council has approved new funding aimed at addressing flooding and improving stormwater infrastructure across the city.
Council authorized a $3.1 million project to reduce flash flooding along North Cherry Street. In addition, the city approved a nearly $600,000 contract with Ardurra Group to further evaluate its stormwater system.
A previous assessment reviewed about 45,000 pieces of infrastructure, including pipes—some dating back before World War II—that had not been fully mapped.
City leaders say the updated inventory will help prioritize repairs and prevent costly emergency fixes. The work is part of a broader $8.4 million effort, much of it funded by federal pandemic relief dollars.
