ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT)– A Roane County Sheriff’s Office deputy was airlifted to a hospital after a crash Friday that also injured another driver, according to authorities.
Roane County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Tim Phillips confirmed a department deputy was involved in the collision, which occurred on Decatur Highway.
According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 75-year-old man was attempting to turn onto Decatur Highway from Keylon Hollow when he allegedly failed to yield the right-of-way and collided with a patrol vehicle driven by Corporal Aaron Tuggle.
Both the driver and Tuggle suffered injuries in the crash.
The Tennessee Department of Safety confirmed that Tuggle was transported from the scene by medical helicopter to receive treatment for his injuries.
Investigators also said Tuggle was transporting an inmate at the time of the collision. The inmate’s condition has not been released, and authorities have not provided additional details regarding any injuries the inmate may have sustained.
THP’s preliminary findings indicate the 75-year-old driver could face charges, although any charges will be determined following completion of the investigation.
No further information about the extent of the injuries or the circumstances surrounding the crash has been released.
