KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT)— FrightWorks, one of East Tennessee’s most recognizable haunted attractions, has announced it will be leaving its longtime Knox County location after the property’s owner sold the building to a new tenant.
In a statement posted on social media, the attraction said it has reached an agreement with the property owner to vacate the facility by July 31, 2026.
The announcement marks a significant change for the haunted house, which has been a staple of Knoxville’s Halloween entertainment scene since it was established in 1999.
While FrightWorks will be leaving its current home, organizers say the future of the attraction has not yet been determined.
“What happens next is still uncertain,” the organization said in its announcement. “We are actively looking for a new home and exploring every opportunity to keep FrightWorks alive in some form.”
Management indicated that opening at a new location in time for the upcoming Halloween season remains possible, but acknowledged that securing a new site and preparing it for operation would require a quick turnaround.
“Opening this October would be amazing, but things would need to fall into place very quickly,” the statement said.
Searching for a New Location
FrightWorks officials say their immediate focus is raising and securing funds needed to relocate the attraction’s props, sets and equipment. The organization noted that moving, storing and eventually rebuilding the haunted house presents significant logistical and financial challenges.
The attraction has built a loyal following over nearly three decades, becoming a popular seasonal destination for thrill-seekers throughout East Tennessee and beyond.
Final Shows Scheduled
As the transition begins, FrightWorks is encouraging supporters to attend its final scheduled events at the current location on July 10 and July 11.
Officials also noted that existing season passes will be honored during those shows.
The organization expressed appreciation for the community’s support over the years and said it remains committed to finding a way to continue the FrightWorks tradition.
For now, the future location of FrightWorks remains unknown, but organizers say they are exploring every available opportunity to keep the haunted attraction alive for future Halloween seasons.
