KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — A Knoxville Police Department officer has resigned while the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate allegations of misconduct.
According to the TBI, agents began investigating allegations involving Officer Shigeki Nagamoto at the request of Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen.
The Knoxville Police Department said Nagamoto was immediately placed on administrative reassignment after the department became aware of the investigation. During that reassignment, his police powers were suspended pending the outcome of the inquiry.
A KPD spokesperson said Nagamoto submitted his resignation over the weekend while the investigation was ongoing.
In a statement, the department said it will continue cooperating with state investigators despite Nagamoto no longer being employed by the agency.
“Though he is no longer an employee of the Knoxville Police Department, we will continue to support the ongoing criminal investigation as needed,” KPD said.
The TBI has not released details about the nature of the alleged misconduct and has not announced any charges. Officials said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
No additional information has been released at this time.
