BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WOKI) — Motorists traveling through Blount County will encounter a temporary road closure on Cusick Road later this week as construction crews complete drainage infrastructure work.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, July 17, Cusick Road will be closed between the Regal Drive roundabout and North Gate Lane to allow crews to install a precast box culvert, according to transportation officials.
The closure will remain in effect through the weekend and is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, July 20, provided weather conditions allow construction to proceed as scheduled.
During the closure, drivers will be directed around the work zone using a detour route that includes:
- North Wright Road and Northpark Boulevard
- Alcoa Highway (U.S. 129/State Route 115)
- Pellissippi Parkway (State Route 162)
- Hunt Road (State Route 335)
Officials are encouraging motorists to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and expect delays while the detour is in place.
Construction crews and equipment will be working in the area throughout the project. Drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speeds and remain alert for workers near the roadway.
The project schedule remains dependent on favorable weather conditions. Any significant weather delays could affect the timeline for reopening the roadway.
Transportation officials recommend motorists seeking to avoid delays use alternate routes whenever possible during the weekend closure.
