KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Story courtesy of WVLT) – The school year is quickly approaching here in East Tennessee, with most students getting back to learning in late July or early August.

In preparation for the 2026-27 school year, Tennessee is holding it’s annual tax-free holiday at the end of July. Parents will be able to get some good deals on school supplies, clothes and technology.

The first district heading back to school in East Tennessee is Alcoa City Schools, which was slated to begin on Tuesday, July 21 but will now start on Thursday, July 23 due to “continued statewide disruptions of the Skyward student information system.”
