KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office says dozens of suspects were apprehended and thousands of dollars in stolen property recovered during a nationwide effort targeting organized retail crime.
From August 3 through August 7, the Sheriff’s Office participated in the 2026 National Organized Retail Crime Blitz, joining law enforcement agencies and retail partners across the country in a coordinated operation aimed at disrupting retail theft networks and fraud schemes.
The operation was led by the KCSO Narcotics and Retail Crimes Unit, with additional support from detectives assigned to the Property Crimes Unit.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the week-long initiative resulted in the apprehension of 39 suspects and the recovery of $4,766.49 worth of stolen property.
Investigators said the operation uncovered several organized theft schemes. Detectives apprehended three individuals connected to a traveling fraud and theft operation that moved between jurisdictions. In a separate case, detectives arrested an individual accused of traveling to steal merchandise and then reselling the stolen items through eBay.
Sheriff’s officials said the investigations highlight how organized retail crime often crosses city, county and state boundaries, making cooperation between law enforcement agencies and private businesses critical to successful prosecutions.
The Sheriff’s Office credited local and national retailers, loss prevention professionals and partnering law enforcement agencies for helping make the operation successful.
KCSO officials said the department’s Retail Crimes Unit has built strong partnerships through years of investigations and information sharing, earning recognition as a resource for retailers and law enforcement agencies across the country.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office says it will continue working with business partners to combat organized retail crime, recover stolen property and hold offenders accountable.
