Knoxville, TN (WOKI / WVLT) – East Tennesseans will have another opportunity to celebrate the life and legacy of Dolly Parton next week as a special memorial parade makes its way through downtown Knoxville.
“What Dolly Did for Me: A Parade for Our Queen” is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 4, inviting the public to honor Parton through music, art and community celebration.
The memorial procession will begin with participants gathering at 6:30 p.m. on the lawn of the City County Building at 400 Main Street. The parade is set to step off at 7 p.m.
Organizers say the parade will be led by the Cattywampus Puppet Council and will feature a giant “Big Dolly” puppet. The event will also include appearances by the Knox Honkers & Bangers, the community marching band known for its bright pink attire and energetic performances.
The half-mile route will travel along Main Street, Walnut Street and Cumberland Avenue before concluding at Market Square near the popular Dolly Parton mural in Strong Alley.
Community members are encouraged to participate by wearing colorful outfits, carrying signs and displaying artwork inspired by Parton’s life and impact.
The parade is one of several tributes that have emerged across East Tennessee following Parton’s death, with fans honoring the country music icon through murals, social media tributes, flowers and public gatherings.
Organizers say the event is intended as a joyful celebration of Parton’s contributions to music, philanthropy and the region she proudly called home.
