KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — Betsy Henderson is officially being sworn in today as Knox County Mayor, becoming the county’s first female chief executive.
Henderson takes office following her victory in the 2026 election and succeeds outgoing Mayor Glenn Jacobs, who served two terms leading county government.
The swearing-in ceremony is part of Knox County’s installation of newly elected officials at the Tennessee Theatre at 10 a.m. Henderson now assumes responsibility for overseeing county operations, budgets, and services that impact residents across Knox County.
Prior to being elected mayor, Henderson served on the Knox County Board of Education and was elected twice as the board’s chair. She also previously worked in the office of former Congressman Jimmy Duncan.
As mayor, Henderson will oversee a wide range of county departments and services while working with County Commission and other elected officials to address growth, infrastructure, public services, and fiscal management.
Her inauguration marks a historic milestone for Knox County, as she becomes the first woman elected to serve as county mayor.
Henderson’s administration begins as Knox County continues to experience population growth and increased demand for county services. Supporters say her experience in public service and education provides a strong foundation for leadership as she begins her first term.
The swearing-in ceremony officially signals the transition from the Jacobs administration to a new era of county leadership.
