MOHAWK, Tenn. (WOKI) — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is inviting young hunters to take part in a Youth Dove Hunt and Cookout on Sept. 5 at the Joachim Bible Refuge in Mohawk.
The event is open to youth ages 6 through 16 and will begin 30 minutes before sunrise at 6:36 a.m. and continue until sunset at 7:53 p.m.
TWRA officials say each youth participant must be accompanied by an adult age 21 or older. Accompanying adults are also permitted to hunt during the event.
Youth hunters ages 13 and older, along with participating adults, must possess the appropriate Tennessee hunting licenses and permits. Because the hunt takes place on a waterfowl refuge, only nontoxic shot is allowed.
The refuge gate will open at daylight for participants. Youth hunters will receive a commemorative T-shirt and one box of steel shot ammunition in either 12- or 20-gauge. TWRA will also provide lunch and snacks for all youth participants and their accompanying adults.
The event will be held at:
Joachim Bible Refuge
170 Guy Matthews Lane
Mohawk, TN 37810
Participants should follow directional signs leading to the dove fields upon arrival.
TWRA encourages interested families to contact event organizers with any questions. Additional information about this and other outdoor recreation opportunities is available through the agency.
