KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — Knoxville Police are searching for a man accused of causing a fatal crash and then fleeing the scene before officers arrived.
The Knoxville Police Department announced Wednesday that Marlon Jiminez-Galo, 25, of Knoxville, is wanted on multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, following a deadly single-vehicle crash Tuesday night.
According to KPD, officers responded just before 8:30 p.m. Sept. 1 to a crash near Boyds Bridge Pike and Andes Road. When officers arrived, they found a black Dodge sedan that had crashed off the roadway.
A 24-year-old female passenger was discovered unresponsive at the scene. She was transported to UT Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.
Investigators determined the Dodge was traveling west on Boyds Bridge Pike at a high rate of speed and was attempting to pass another vehicle when the driver lost control.
Police said the car left the roadway and struck two utility poles before coming to rest.
The preliminary investigation found evidence that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
Before officers arrived, the suspected driver fled the scene. A witness told investigators that a man was seen running from the wrecked vehicle into nearby woods shortly after the crash.
Responding officers searched the area extensively but were unable to find the suspect.
Further investigation identified Jiminez-Galo as the alleged driver of the vehicle.
KPD said warrants have been filed charging him with:
- Vehicular homicide
- Leaving the scene of an accident
- Driving without a license
Officers checked multiple possible addresses associated with Jiminez-Galo on Tuesday night but were unable to locate him.
The search remains ongoing.
