NEW TAZEWELL, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) — An Oak Ridge man is facing several criminal charges after New Tazewell police said officers discovered approximately one pound of marijuana, THC products and an AR-15 rifle during a weekend traffic stop.
According to the New Tazewell Police Department, an officer stopped a vehicle Saturday that was being driven by 25-year-old Matthew Wood of Oak Ridge.
During the traffic stop, officers conducted an investigation that led to the discovery of several items inside the vehicle, including approximately one pound of marijuana, 10 THC vape devices, THC gummies and an AR-15 firearm.
Following the discovery, Wood was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses.
Authorities said the charges include:
- Possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver or sell
- Possession of a firearm while in the commission of a felony
- Unlawful possession of a weapon
- Speeding
Police have not released additional details regarding the circumstances of the traffic stop or whether the firearm was loaded at the time it was recovered.
The case remains within the criminal justice process. As with all defendants charged with a crime, Wood is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
