Knoxville, TN (WOKI) – A 23-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash that happened Monday evening in the area of Merchant Drive and Central Avenue Pike.
At around 6:40 p.m. on Monday, May 4, KPD officers responded to the aforementioned location on a report of a crash involving a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, a 23-year-old man with a Crossville, Tennessee address, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Merchant Drive when it suddenly veered left into oncoming eastbound traffic. The motorcycle then struck a Hyundai SUV head on, was thrown from the motorcycle and struck the front of an eastbound Chevrolet Suburban.
Two child passengers in the Hyundai SUV sustained suspected minor injuries in the crash. No other injuries were reported.
The crash is being investigated by KPD crash reconstruction personnel. That investigation remains ongoing at this time.
