NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI) — Tennessee’s annual Bobby Wilson Free Fishing Day is set for Saturday, June 6, offering anglers of all ages a chance to fish without a license in public waters statewide.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says the free fishing opportunity extends beyond just one day. Children ages 15 and younger can fish for free the entire week, from June 6 through June 12.
The event, held every year since 1991, aims to introduce families and young people to fishing and outdoor recreation. TWRA officials say the state’s lakes, rivers, and streams are managed to provide quality fishing experiences.
Communities across Tennessee are also hosting special events tied to Free Fishing Day, with details available through the TWRA events page.
The day honors longtime TWRA leader Bobby Wilson, who retired in 2022 after more than 40 years of service to the agency.
TWRA notes that while public waters are included, some privately owned pay lakes may still charge fees.
