KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI / WVLT) – A Knoxville man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he was caught driving 122 miles per hour on Interstate 40 early Saturday morning.
According to court records, officers stopped a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Ian Sorochan just after 5 a.m. near mile marker 382 on I-40 after determining he was traveling at an excessive speed.
When officers approached the vehicle, they reported smelling alcohol on Sorochan’s breath and observing bloodshot, watery eyes. Court records indicate Sorochan was unable to provide an explanation for why he was traveling at such a high rate of speed.
Authorities said Sorochan denied consuming alcohol, but officers reported that he failed multiple field sobriety tests administered during the traffic stop.
Following his arrest, officers searched the vehicle and reportedly found an empty beer can on the rear floorboard.
Sorochan was taken into custody and charged with:
- Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
- Implied Consent Violation
- Open Container Violation
- Reckless Driving
- Speeding
The case will move through the court system as the charges are adjudicated.
