KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WOKI /WVLT) — A coordinated effort by Knox County first responders resulted in the successful rescue of a person trapped inside a vehicle that had entered the water.
According to Knox County Rescue, crews responded Monday morning alongside Rural Metro Fire after receiving reports of a vehicle in the water with its lights still illuminated.
When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they discovered that a person was still inside the vehicle.
Officials said first responders quickly worked together to remove the occupant safely from the car.
“Thanks to the quick response and teamwork of first responders, the individual was successfully rescued from the vehicle,” Knox County Rescue said in a statement.
Following the rescue, dive teams entered the water to ensure no additional victims remained inside the vehicle.
Divers determined that no other occupants were present, bringing the incident to a successful conclusion.
“We are thankful for the quick actions of everyone involved and, most importantly, for a successful outcome,” Knox County Rescue said. “Incidents like this demonstrate the importance of training, teamwork, and strong partnerships between responding agencies.”
Officials did not release information about the condition of the person rescued, how the vehicle entered the water, or the specific location of the incident.
The circumstances leading up to the vehicle becoming submerged remain unclear.
The rescue highlights the role specialized emergency response teams play in water-related emergencies and the importance of coordinated efforts between fire, rescue and dive personnel during potentially life-threatening situations.
