KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Wide receiver Jauan Jennings became the second Tennessee football player in as many days to be selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, going No. 217 overall in the seventh round to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday afternoon.
Jennings joined fellow teammate Darrell Taylor as draftees. Taylor was taken No. 48 overall by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round on Friday evening.
“I’m just excited to get there and be a part of the great team that they already have,” Jennings said. “For me to come in, it’s a blessing, and I’m extremely grateful and cannot wait to go work my butt off for them. They gave me a chance, and I’m going to do my best not to disappoint.”
Jennings became the first Vol receiver to be drafted since Josh Malone was taken in the 2017 sixth round. A total of 38 Tennessee wide receivers have now been drafted all time.
Jennings capped his career as one of the top receivers in program history, finishing fifth all-time at UT in receptions (146), fourth in receiving yards (2,153) and tied-for-fifth in touchdown receptions (18). In 2019, he led the Vols with 59 receptions for 969 yards and eight touchdown catches. No draft eligible receiver in 2019 forced more missed tackles that Jennings did with 30 according to Pro Football Focus.
In addition, first-team All-SEC safety Nigel Warrior (Baltimore Ravens) and second-team All-SEC wide receiver Marquez Callaway (New Orleans Saints) have signed undrafted free agent contracts as of Saturday evening.
2020 NFL Draft Vol Notables
Jennings became the 11th Vol selected by the San Francisco 49ers all-time and first since Parys Haralson in 2006. He is the third Vol receiver taken by San Francisco.
Jeremy Pruitt has now coached 59 NFL Draft picks as a head coach and assistant, including Jennings and Taylor.
Jennings became the 372nd all-time Vol drafted (includes AFL drafts).
It’s the 37th draft in the modern era (since 1970) that Tennessee had at least one offensive player selected and one defensive player taken.
Jennings is the 81st Vol selected since 2000.
With the additions of Taylor, Jennings, Warrior and Callaway, a total of 37 VFLs are now on active NFL rosters as of April 25.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — University of Tennessee women’s basketball head coach Kellie Harper announced Saturday that Marta Suárez of Oviedo, Asturias, Spain, has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Vol basketball program.
Suárez, a 6-foot-2 guard/forward who attended high school at INS Joaquim Blume, is listed as a four-star prospect by Blue Star Europe. She will be a freshman this fall and bring UT’s number of newcomers to four entering the 2020-21 campaign.
“We are thrilled to add Marta Suárez to the Lady Vol family,” Harper said. “Marta is a very versatile player and possesses a wide skill set. She can handle the ball, pass, post up, rebound and score. In addition, she is a very hard worker and is quite competitive.”
The newest Lady Vol will join Tess Darby (6-1, G/F, Greenfield, Tenn., Greenfield H.S.) and Destiny Salary (6-0, G, Jonesboro, Ark., Jonesboro H.S.) in the prep signing class of 2020. With the addition of graduate transfer Keyen Green (6-1, F/C, Philadelphia, Pa., Phil-Mont Christian Academy) from Liberty University, UT has increased its roster to 12 players.
While playing during the 2019-20 season for Segle XXI Bercelona in Spain’s LF2 League, Suárez led that team by averaging 12.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest as a starter. She shot 46 percent from the field, 34.6 percent on three pointers and 73.3 percent from the free throw line. She connected on 27 treys in 20 games played.
In international competition, Suárez represented Spain at the 2018 FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship from Aug. 17-25 in Kaunas, Lithuania, helping her native country place third. Seeing 16.9 minutes of action in seven tourney games, she averaged 7.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.4 assists while shooting 51.1 percent from the field. She had an average plus/minus of 15, with only one game below 12 and five at 15 or more.
Coming off the bench in five of seven contests, Suárez had bests of 15 points (on 7-of-9 shooting) and six rebounds vs. Belgium. She contributed 12 points (on 6-of-11 shooting) and added four boards in the third-place game victory over Turkey.
Suárez is the fourth international player in Lady Vol history, with Cheridene Green (London, England) beginning the trend by joining the program for the 2016-17 campaign and wrapping up her UT career in 2018-19. She was followed by Lou Brown (Melbourne, Australia) from 2018-20 and Jessie Rennie (Bendigo, Australia) from 2019-20 to present.
Wide receiver Jauan Jennings met with the 49ers media today for the first time since being selected in the 7th Round (#217 overall) by San Francisco from the University of Tennessee. Full transcript is below courtesy of the 49ers media website.
Another Vol is on the roster, CB Emmanuel Moseley. Have you had the chance to talk to him yet?
“No, I haven’t. I’ve just been too excited jumping around the house with the family.”
How much time have you had to take a look at head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense and what excites you about joining it?
“Not too much as far as film study, but I’ve seen the playoff run they made, which was incredible. Of course I tuned in. I’m just excited to get there and be a part of the great team that they already have. For me to come in, it’s a blessing and I’m extremely grateful and cannot wait to go work my butt off for them. They gave me a chance and I’m going to do my best not to disappoint.”
Did you have contact at the Senior Bowl or Combine and have you talked to your former teammate WR Jalen Hurd recently?
“I didn’t have contact with them at the Senior Bowl, but I did talk to them during the Combine. With Jalen Hurd, I haven’t gotten to talk to him yet, but we’re all friends. That goes back to the question about Emmanuel Moseley, I can’t wait to see my bro, E-man. It’s been forever. Definitely a lot of excitement there.”
What were your conversations like with the 49ers?
“It was quick and snappy. They loved my film. They loved my tape. They really just needed me to dive deep in myself to work harder and I take that upon myself to do so.”
Is there a wide receiver in the NFL that you compare yourself to and model your game after?
“I would say [former NFL WR] Brandon Marshall and [Cleveland Browns WR] Jarvis Landry because of body positioning. They’re really good at doing that and I see myself doing that too.”
Who’s calling you?
“Actually, my coach. My head coach from Tennessee, coach [Jeremy] Pruitt. I’m declining him. I feel bad about it.”
You’ve been noted for being very physical as a receiver. Can you talk about what you bring to the game that way?
“Definitely going to bring that physicality to every game. That’s always been a part of me. That’s not just in the blocking game, because I do love to block, but it’s also when it comes to me catching the ball. I’m a great receiver after the catch and I take pride in that. I believe in myself to be able to do that at a high level.”
Just wondering what your training looks like from here on out, as there’s a lot going on with the coronavirus. What are your plans for training and getting ready for the NFL season?
“Honestly, I’m still kind of dazed and looking for when I have to report. I can’t wait to report. I’m thinking about that. I’m just going to be doing the same thing I’ve been doing during this pandemic. It’s been unfortunate. Like everyone else, I’m grateful for the people who are fighting this for us up front. I’ve just been going out to the field with my brothers. We’ve just been using the social distancing rules and just having fun throwing the football.”
Just wondering, how do you feel you fit in with the attitude and the style that the 49ers use on offense? I’m sure you caught a few games over the past couple years.
“I look at this offense and I see a receiver, [WR] Deebo Samuel. I’ve known him since the SEC days. He’s a great receiver and he’s always had that dog, that gritty attitude that I’m going to bring as well. [QB] Jimmy Garoppolo, you got him in the backfield throwing the rock. It’s just going to be hard to stop us in my mind. We’ve got a lot of weapons and I just can’t wait to go out there and help. This is a lot right now.”
Here’s a look at some videos and info on Jauan Jennings. It includes a reaction to being selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the 7th round #217 where he had an emotional moment with his mother. Plus, you’ll find much more below.
Jauan Jennings is one of the best teammates, leaders, competitors and players that I’ve ever had the privilege of coaching! Proud of him! Let ‘em know Vol nation! #PoweredByTheThttps://t.co/saAruaXMie

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are getting a lot of video mileage out of their new duet, “Nobody But You.”
There was a lyric video, official video, behind-the-scenes video, acoustic video . . . and now, vertical video, which you can watch below.
Penned by Ross Copperman, Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne and Tommy Lee James, “Nobody But You” is one of four new tracks on Blake’s recently released album, Fully Loaded: God’s Country.
“I was at The Voice compound and Shane McAnally is on Songland, so they were there doing some cross-promotion,” says Blake. “Shane came to my trailer and said, ‘Man, I got a song for you.’ I knew he had Gwen’s number from a write, so I told him to send it to her as I was being called to set. I actually got the song twice because my producer Scott Hendricks emailed it to me right after. Then one day I was driving with Gwen and I said, ‘Hey, let’s listen to that song from Shane, because Scott sent it to me too—it must be pretty incredible.’ When I heard it, I was just floored. I realized how important that song was for me and where I am in my life right now. I just think it’s magical. I literally think it’s important of a song as I’ve ever recorded.”
Harold Reid, 80, passed away on April 24, according to a statement by the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Harold was the longtime bass vocalist in the Statler Brothers quartet. Originally named The Four Star Quartet and later The Kingsmen, the quartet re-branded themselves as the Statler Brothers in the early 1960s with Harold, brother Don Reid, Phil Balsley and Lew DeWitt, and continued making music until their farewell tour in 2002. Jimmy Fortune replaced DeWitt in the 1980s.
The Statler Brothers won multiple Grammy Awards, CMA Awards and ACM Awards. They were elected to the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. “Flowers on the Wall” and “Bed of Roses” are two of the quartet’s most well-known hits.
