About this year’s matchup:

  • Tennessee and Georgia Tech have met 43 times, with the Volunteers holding a 24-17-2 series lead over the Yellow Jackets. One-time SEC rivals, this year’s meeting will mark the first between the programs in 30 years. In the most recent 1987 matchup, Tennessee defeated Georgia Tech 29-15 in Knoxville.
  • It will be Tennessee’s second appearance in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, the first a 2012 win over N.C. State. Georgia Tech will be making its first appearance in the game.
  • This year’s clash between the storied rivals will be the second college game to be played in the new state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz Stadium and will be the 10th ACC vs. SEC matchup in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. The SEC currently holds a 7-1 advantage over the ACC in those games.
  • The Yellow Jackets carry a three-game winning streak against SEC opponents, including triumphs over Georgia and Kentucky to close the ‘16 campaign. The ACC won 10 of the 14 games played between the two Power 5 conferences last season, including a 4-1 mark in the postseason.
  • The Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, with its Monday-night slot, marks the third time in the last four years that Tennessee will open the season on a non-Saturday. The Vols are 12-11-1 all-time on Monday night, last playing a regular season game on Monday when they opened the 2008 season at UCLA.
  • The Tennessee-Georgia Tech game will pay tribute to legendary coach Bobby Dodd and The Dodd Trophy coach of the year award in his name. Dodd played at Tennessee (1928-1930) and coached at Georgia Tech (1931-1966), leading the Yellow Jackets to the program’s 1952 National Championship.

Watch Blake Shelton Thank Country Radio in New Video That Features His 24 No. 1 Hits

It may not be Thanksgiving, but that hasn’t stopped Blake Shelton from showing his gratitude this week.

After thanking Nashville songwriters for their “incredible” contributions to his musical catalogue in a Facebook post on Aug. 21, Blake released a video on Twitter today (Aug. 23) in which he thanked country radio for “lettin’ me entertain you for two decades.”

During the black-and-white clip, Blake walks from his tour bus and backstage area to center stage at one of his concerts as the titles to his 24 No. 1 tunes appear onscreen. Snippets of five of those No. 1 hits play throughout the video, including “Every Time I Hear That Song,” “Boys ’Round Here,” “Honey Bee,” “All About Tonight” and “Austin.”

Watch the video below, which includes a cameo by RaeLynn, who served as support on Blake’s recent Doin’ It To Country Songs Tour.

Family, friends, colleagues and industry insiders gathered at the Country Music Hall of Fame last night (Aug. 22) to celebrate Loretta Lynn’s new exhibit, Loretta Lynn: Blue Kentucky Girl.

Although Loretta was not present—she hasn’t made a public appearance since suffering a stroke in May—artists Margo Price, Brandy Clark and Kacey Musgraves stepped onto the stage to pay tribute to the country music legend.

Margo Price kicked off the evening by performing Loretta’s 1968 No. 1 hit, “Fist City,” before Kacey Musgraves took the stage to read the forward that she wrote for the book based on the new exhibit.

“Imagine how many little girls or boys—shining diamonds like Loretta—sit in their rooms, observing the world around them, learning from their parents’ mistakes, and spilling their songs into notebooks, waiting to be plucked out of their subdivision to become someone that we’re going to herald as the one who broke the mold and established the new normal. I can’t wait to see who’s gonna emerge,” Kacey said. “But for now, I’ll cherish the memories and moments that I’ve been wildly fortunate enough to share with miss Loretta. And I’m going to keep her voice very loud in my head and in my ears, listening to the one who’s never going to be replaced.”

Brandy Clark capped the tribute by performing “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” a tune Loretta took to the top of the charts in 1970.

Loretta’s fans can revisit the past in her new exhibit that opens on Friday, Aug. 25, and runs through Aug. 5, 2018. Loretta’s exhibit features dresses she wore in some of her most well-known album covers, personal memorabilia, photos, awards, instruments and more.

NCD Exclusive: Luke Bryan Talks About New Single and Upcoming Album: “I Still Get as Stressed as Ever” But “It’s Pretty Special Stuff”

NCD Exclusive: Luke Bryan Talks About New Single and Upcoming Album: “I Still Get as Stressed as Ever” But “It’s Pretty Special Stuff”

Early this morning (Aug. 23), Luke Bryan released a new single, “Light It Up,” which is the first single from his upcoming sixth studio album due later this year. The new tune focuses on the singer’s unrequited love for a girl as he beckons her to “light it up,” a reference to calling him back on the phone.

On the heels of today’s release, Luke stopped by the Nash Country Daily campus to talk about the new single as well as his upcoming album.

“[The single] is a good mid-tempo, and I think it just really defines kinda where people are these days,” says Luke to NCD. “You use your phones—we’ve both got our phones right here. You use your phones so much and you use text messaging so much. The song is about a guy who is just waiting for his phone to buzz and light up and see if she’s gonna call him up for a late-night rendezvous. When Brad [Tursi] and I sat down to write the song, I just remember going, ‘This is kinda what people do these days. They use their phones to break-up and get back together.’”

As far as his upcoming sixth studio album, Luke admits it was a stressful endeavor but that he feels he’s created some pretty special stuff for his fans.

“I still get as stressed as ever,” says Luke. “I may be more stressed about [the new album] than ever. You just wanna keep making the best music you can make, and you obviously want to move the needle and sound a little different but you don’t want to do anything to freak your fan base out. So it’s a daunting challenge when you think about sitting around trying to put a new album together. But it’s still fun, too. When you get it completed, you’ve got something you’re proud of—it’s pretty special stuff.”

Oh Snap! Tim McGraw to Design His Own Line of Fitness Clubs

Oh Snap! Tim McGraw to Design His Own Line of Fitness Clubs

The perpetually ripped Tim McGraw announced that he is partnering with Snap Fitness to design a line of fitness clubs called TRU MAV Signature Clubs.

“Fitness and healthy living are a key part of my music and life, which is why I want to encourage you to leave your comfort zone and get fit,” said Tim, in part, in an Instagram post.

Tim also chatted with Men’s Fitness about his new endeavor, saying that the Snap partnership appealed to him because they shared the same passion for fitness.

“About seven or eight years ago I really got back into [working out], and tried to get my health back together like I wanted it,” said Tim. “When I really got serious about fitness, I thought it would be a cool world to be in. The biggest impact I could have was with people who already knew what they were doing. Snap shared the same passions that I had, and the space that they had and the way that they handled their space was something that was really appealing to me.

“I’m designing the Signature Club—it’s like a Snap Club, with different touches to it that I’ll be involved in. Roger Yuan, who’s been my trainer for probably five or six years now, will also be working with me to design some concepts and some different workouts that really can be beneficial to people in a functional way.”

Go Behind the Scenes With Lady Antebellum in New Video as They Perform Acoustic Version of “You Look Good”

Lady Antebellum has had a busy year since releasing their current single, “You Look Good,” in January.

The trio kicked off their 65-plus-date You Look Good World Tour in May and dropped their new album, Heart Break, in June. On top of that, Lady A has made appearances on Good Morning America, Dancing With the Stars, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel Live and more.

And just last week, Lady A’s Dave Haywood and wife Kelli announced they are expecting their second child, a baby girl, in December, while Hillary Scott and husband Chris Tyrell announced they are expecting twins in February.

Yesterday (Aug. 22) on Facebook, Lady A shared an acoustic version of “You Look Good” set to a three-minute clip that captures many of the trio’s aforementioned adventures over the last year, as well as behind-the-scenes footage of the group kicking back.

Jimmy’s blog: Currie says `emotional’ Lady Vols issue `hurt feelings’

Jimmy’s blog: Currie says `emotional’ Lady Vols issue `hurt feelings’

Aug. 23

By Jimmy Hyams

When John Currie was hired as Tennessee athletic director Feb. 28, one of the first questions he was asked was this:

Will you restore the Lady Vols nickname to all women’s sports?

The Dave Hart administration decided two years ago to do away with Lady Vols in all sports but basketball.

Currie said there are a “lot of different feelings’’ on the issue, some of which have been “well articulated’’ either publicly or privately.

Currie was Kansas State’s athletic director when the Lady Vols change came about. He said he understood some of the “technical’’ reasons but also knew it touched a sensitive nerve to a women’s program that had built a well-known brand over a 40-year period.

Shortly after Currie arrived, he said he drove to a “Lady Vols softball game,’’ thus, he said, “it never went away from me,’’ meaning the Lady Vols moniker.

“It’s an issue that has a lot of different layers, a lot of different perspectives,’’ Currie said, speaking at a function last week at Buddy’s Banquet Hall.

Currie said he and Chancellor Beverly Davenport continue to listen to different points of view.

“I recognized that for whatever reason, whether intentionally or unintentionally, not having the Lady Vols name associated with some of our sports and how it went about and was communicated hurt a lot of feelings,’’ Currie said.

“So in this process, we don’t need hurt feelings. We need to be unified. So as we go through the process of what the next step is, that continues to weigh heavy on our minds.’’

Currie gave no indication as to which way he leaned, and he also gave no timetable for a decision.

But since he hasn’t made a call in almost five months on the job, many believe he will leave status quo.

On another topic, as Currie addressed the crowd, several long-time Tennessee fans said they prefer orange and white football uniforms, not Smokey Grey.

“I would agree with you, I prefer orange and white,’’ Currie said. “And when I was at Kansas State, I preferred purple and white.’’

Currie said there is “excitement for some folks’’ in wearing different uniforms but that “Tennessee is on the more traditional side of it than most.’’

Currie added: “We’re always talking about our brand right now, and you turn on that television and you can’t tell if a team is Syracuse or Oklahoma State or Texas San Antonio because their uniform changes every week, and I don’t like that.’’

Currie said Nike – UT’s apparel partner – does not make the decision on the uniforms the Vols wear. He said that’s up to the coaches.

“Ultimately, I’m not in the business of telling a coach, `you can’t wear this or you can’t wear that,’ unless it’s totally outrageous,’’ Currie said.

“Our coaches are the ones that make the decision within the frame work of who we are, and who we are is orange and white.’’

Currie also said that it costs about $50-to-60,000 when a team orders new sets of helmets, which Currie said is not only an added expense, but a potential safety issue with re-fitting helmets to a player’s head.

On other topics:

* Currie said he favors cost-of-attendance for student-athletes. UT pays about $5,666 per year per athlete, which is the highest in the SEC.

“I think there was a lot of fear that the world was coming to an end and people would start manipulating their numbers,’’ Currie said. “Those fears were largely unfounded and I think it’s been very positive for our student-athlete population.’’

Currie isn’t sympathetic to some athletes who claim to go to bed hungry.

“If a college student-athlete is going to be hungry at night,’’ Currie said, “it is because they chose to spend their money on other things. With the exception of a few extreme cases, they couldn’t possibly go hungry.’’

* Currie said he was disappointed that Tennessee was 46th in the national all-sports trophy race and 12th among 14 teams in the SEC.

“One of the things we have got to do better is win more,’’ Currie said. “And certainly we are going to continue to graduate our student-athletes and help prepare them for their careers and life after athletics.

“But we have got to win more. And that’s a big focus for us.’’

* Currie said Chancellor Davenport has asked a task force on UT’s campus to study the school’s campus alcohol policy.

Currie said the 1980s UT Hills Topics handbook says students may not consume or possession alcohol on campus.

“I don’t want to get into failed social policy or any theoretical stuff, but there is a lot of ambiguity there,’’ Currie said.

“We have an antiquated policy so this is not an athletics issue.’’

Currie noted you could be a 45-year-old PhD student but you can’t drink on campus. He also pointed out UT can’t sell alcohol at concerts and other events held on campus.

Currie said West Virginia changed its campus alcohol policy and had fewer negative incidents at games. Currie said he allowed alcohol sales in public areas for basketball and women’s soccer to enhance the fan experience.

Currie also said there is a revenue aspect to selling adult beverages in public areas at sporting events.

He said he has yet to decide on whether he would propose alcohol sales in public areas at UT sporting events.

Listen to Luke Bryan’s Brand-New Single, “Light It Up” + Check Out the Lyrics

The wait for new music from Luke Bryan is over.

Today (Aug. 23), Luke released his new single, “Light It Up,” which is the first single from his upcoming sixth studio album due later this year.

Luke had not released new music since his single, “Fast,” in November 2016, which became the sixth song from his 2015 album, Kill the Lights, to reach No. 1.

“Light It Up,” which was co-penned by Luke and Old Dominion’s Brad Tursi, will look to become the 19th No. 1 single of Luke’s career.

The tune focuses on the singer’s unrequited love for a girl as he beckons her to “light it up,” a reference to calling him back on the phone.

Listen to the new tune below.

“Light It Up”
Written by Luke Bryan and Brad Tursi
Produced by Jeff Stevens & Jody Stevens

I open my eyes, reach for the phone
Not a word from you baby
It don’t leave my sight since we had that fight
Can’t remember but maybe I blew you up
In the middle of the night again
You were drinking with your friends
You ignored it but you got it

Chorus:
I get so neurotic about it baby
‘Cause I know you’re reading your phone
I can’t help from going crazy
Thinking you might not be all alone
I wake up, I check it
I shower and I check it
I feel the buzz in my truck
And I almost wreck it
I always got it on me
Just in case you want me
So, if you’re looking for my love
Then light it up

Every time I unlock my screen
I hope I see one of them red lipstick ‘I miss you’ pictures
I’m on your clock, you’re in control
You want me now baby go figure
My worlds at the tips of your fingers

Repeat Chorus

Yeah baby, light it up

I go to sleep, I check it
In the middle of the night, I check it
I feel the buzz in my bed
And I don’t get no rest
I always got it on me
Just in case you want me
So, if you’re looking for my love
Then light it up

Yeah baby, light it up
