Vols’ SEC Network Takeover Set for July 18

For the third consecutive year, SEC Network is turning over its control room to the 14 Southeastern Conference schools for a two-week stretch. On Tuesday, July 18, SEC Network programming will be entirely devoted to the Big Orange for 24 hours.

Featured content on that day includes memorable Tennessee football, basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball victories. Descriptions of those games can be found below. Network documentaries focused on Condredge Holloway and Pat Summitt are also scheduled to air.

Also featured is a pair of signing day events. A replay of Tennessee Football’s annual signing day show will air on Tuesday, as well as a replay of UT’s first-ever Declaration Day. Styled similarly to an athletics signing day event, Declaration Day focused on students (not student-athletes) that have chosen to attend the University of Tennessee. The program was filled with inspiring stories and also featured guest appearances by football players Joshua Dobbs, Trey Smith and men’s basketball player Kyle Alexander.

During their respective SEC Network Takeover day, league schools have the opportunity to fill an entire day with classic games, films, ESPN original content and school-produced content. Each school’s appointed date was drafted at random.

In addition to taking over the television network, SEC Network’s social handles will be devoted to the appropriate school each day.

Tennessee at Georgia (Football)
On the heels of its memorable victory over Florida, the Vols traveled to Athens and picked up one of the most thrilling wins in their program history. A rollercoaster finish that saw three lead changes over the final three minutes, Tennessee clinched the win behind a 43-yard Hail Mary touchdown from Dobbs to Jennings as time expired.

Senior Robert Hubbs III put together one of the best performances of his career, scoring 25 points. Freshman Grant Williams did a little bit of everything in the win, notching 13 points to go along with six assists, six rebounds and four blocks.

Tennessee at South Carolina (Women’s Basketball)
Another Big Orange victory against a top-five foe, the Lady Vols invaded Columbia and emerged with a 76-74 victory over No. 4 South Carolina. Jaime Nared dropped a career-high 27 points and buried a pair of clutch free throws in the final seconds of the fourth quarter to lift UT to the win.

Florida at Tennessee (Softball)
Behind a grand slam from Megan Geer in the bottom of the fifth inning, No. 8 Tennessee rallied to knock of No. 1 Florida at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

Tennessee at Vanderbilt (Baseball)
Held without a hit until the seventh inning, the Vols scored nine runs in the eighth and ninth frames to fly past in-state rival Vanderbilt in Nashville. Trailing 3-0 entering the eighth inning, Jeff Moberg’s RBI single and Jordan Rodgers’ grand slam to left field powered the decisive rally.

1999 Fiesta Bowl (Football)
Tennessee won the 1998 national championship, the first for the Vols since 1951, and completed the school’s first-ever 13-0 season with a 23-16 win over No. 2 Florida State. Peerless Price caught four passes for 199 yards, earning Offensive Player of the Game.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tennessee redshirt senior punter Trevor Daniel has been named to the pre-season watch list for the 2017 Ray Guy Award, as announced by the Augusta Sports Council on Wednesday.

The Ray Guy Award honors the nation’s top collegiate punter and the pre-season watch list features 29 candidates.

In 2016, Daniel, posted a 44.6-yard average with 28 of his 70 punts inside the 20, 29 fair catches and 21 punts of 50 or more yards. His 44.6-yard average ranked third among SEC punters and his 70-yard punt against South Carolina was the longest in the SEC in 2016. Daniel was a candidate for the Ray Guy Award in both 2015 and 2016.

The number of eligible candidates for this season will grow when the award opens nominations in September. The complete list of candidates will be released on Oct. 31. In early November, the Ray Guy Award committee will meet to select the 10 semifinalists, who will be announced on Nov. 16. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will then vote for the top three finalists to be announced on Nov. 21. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation’s top punter. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 7.

The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor the Thomson, Georgia, native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis placed on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team’s success.

Loretta Lynn Cancels 2017 Tour Dates, Postpones New Album Until 2018

Loretta Lynn Cancels 2017 Tour Dates, Postpones New Album Until 2018

As Loretta Lynn, 85, continues to recover from a stroke she suffered in May, she announced today (July 12) that she is canceling all 2017 tour dates and postponing the release of her new album, Wouldn’t It Be Great.

Wouldn’t It Be Great, which was originally slated to drop in August 2017, will be released in 2018.

“Thank you so much for all of your prayers, love and support,” said Loretta in a statement on her website. “I’m happy to say that I’m at home with my family and getting better by the day! My main focus now is making a full recovery so that I can get back to putting all of me into what I love, sharing my music with all of you. My new album, Wouldn’t It Be Great, was originally scheduled to come in August this year. I now want to wait to release it next year because this record is so special for me. It deserves me at my best and I can’t wait to share it. I want to thank everyone for hanging in there with me. I am getting stronger every day and can’t wait to get back out there with all of you. I’m just letting everybody know that Willie ain’t dead yet and neither am I, and I can’t wait to see all of you on the road!”

All of the tunes on the new 10-song offering were penned or co-penned by Loretta. Like the album’s predecessor, the Grammy-nominated Full Circle (March 2016), Wouldn’t It Be Great was mainly recorded at the Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tenn., with producers Patsy Lynn Russell and John Carter Cash. The album features new songs “Ruby’s Stool,” “Ain’t No Time to Go” and “I’m Dying for Someone to Live For” alongside newly recorded renditions of past compositions such as “God Makes No Mistakes,” “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “Don’t Come Home A’ Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind).”

Watch Lindsay Ell Shred and Knock ’Em Dead in New “Waiting On You” Video

Lindsay Ell is gearing up for the release of her debut album, The Project, in August by dropping a new video for her current single, “Waiting on You.”

The video, which was directed by Peter Zavadil, features Lindsay shredding on guitar with her band in a rustic Nashville warehouse as she puts vocals to the tune she co-penned with Adam Hambrick and Andrew DeRoberts.

“It is the first song that started this whole project because when we originally started talking with Kristian Bush to produce my whole record, ‘Waiting on You’ was the song that all of us were like, ‘You know what, there’s something to this,’” Lindsay said in April. “As an artist, I came to town really trying to find what I wanted to sound like. I think it took me years of doing the wrong thing to finally find the right thing. ‘Waiting on You’ is the first song where I could honestly be like, ‘That’s me.’ If I was given three minutes with somebody whose never heard my name before, to really hear what’s going on in my heart and hear what I sound like, ‘Waiting on You’ would be it.”

Todd Kelly Jr. Named As Nominee For 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

Todd Kelly Jr. Named As Nominee For 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

NORTHBROOK, Ill.– Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) on Monday named Tennessee senior defensive back Todd Kelly Jr. as one of its 146 nominees for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, one of the most prestigious off-the-field honors in college football.

Since 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has brought together a select group of college football players from across the country to honor their dedication to volunteerism and enriching the lives of others. While players are often recognized for their accomplishments and achievements on game day, these student-athletes have made significant contributions to the greater good of society, inspiring future generations of young athletes and the larger college football community.

As a Knoxville native, Kelly takes a lot of pride in serving the local community. His community service activities have centered on helping children. From cheering on patients at East Tennessee Children’s Hopsital to mentoring local fourth-graders at Lonsdale Elementary to serving others via the Emerald Youth Foundation and Read Across America, Kelly is committed to inspiring local youth. He is a member of the 100 Black Men of Knoxville, which serves as a catalyst to empower minority youth to reach their full potential. He has also served as a speaker at local churches and elementary schools.

“Allstate is immensely honored to partner with the AFCA for the 10th year to help pay tribute to these players and their off-the-field ‘good works’ that often go unnoticed and unrewarded,” said Thomas Clarkson, president of the west territory for Allstate Insurance Company and a member of the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® voting panel. “The individuals nominated to the 2017 Good Works Team® are making a positive impact and uniting communities across the country through service, showing what’s possible when you put all hands in and give back.”

The student-athletes nominated for this esteemed award embody the true spirit of teamwork and selflessness, donating their limited free time to helping and serving others. From founding a non-profit that helps orphans secure jobs in the workforce to raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer research, the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® nominees may wear different jerseys on the field, but they all exemplify a superior commitment to giving back off of it.

The SEC leads all conferences with 67 selections to the Good Works Team since it began in 1992.

“After looking at the bios of the 146 nominees we received for 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, it really shows that there are great football student-athletes all over this country who just don’t care what happens between the sidelines, but they also care about their community and giving back to others,” Todd Berry, AFCA Executive Director said. “The AFCA has been proud to partner with Allstate these past 10 years to honor football players who give more of themselves to help others in need.”

Comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA, the final roster of 22 award recipients will be unveiled in September. From the nominees submitted by sports information directors across the nation on behalf of their schools, a special voting panel consisting of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® members and prominent college football media members will select the 2017 Good Works Team®. Two-time national champion, Heisman Trophy winner and 2009 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® member Tim Tebow will headline the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® voting panel.

In addition to Tebow and Clarkson, the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® selection panel members includes: former Good Works Team® members Zaid Abdul-Aleem (Duke, 1994 team), Matt Stinchcomb (Georgia, 1997, 1998 teams), Brian Brenberg (St. Thomas, 2001 team), Mike Proman (Amherst, 2002 team) and Wes Counts (Middle Tennessee State, 1999 team); media members Kirk Herbstreit (ESPN), Blair Kerkhoff (Kansas City Star) and Paul Myerberg (USA TODAY); current AFCA President and University of Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez; 2001 AFCA President and current athletic director at Virginia Union University Joe Taylor.

Once the final team members are announced in September, college football fans are encouraged to visit the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® website on ESPN.com, featuring profiles and images of the players, for the opportunity to vote for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® Captain. Throughout the season, fans can also follow along and join in on the conversation by searching and using #GoodWorksTeam on their social media channels.

In order to meet the criteria set forth by Allstate and the AFCA, each player must be actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining a strong academic standing.
