Jon Pardi Got “Cleaned Up” but Only “So Fancy” for Performance of “Dirt on My Boots”

Jon Pardi Got “Cleaned Up” but Only “So Fancy” for Performance of “Dirt on My Boots”

California native Jon Pardi boot-scooted up to NYC today (March 23) to perform his recent No. 1 hit, “Dirt on My Boots,” on Good Morning America.

Donning his best denim, hat and boots, the ACM New Male Vocalist of the Year got “cleaned up” for the gig, but only “so fancy,” just like it says in the lyrics of the aforementioned tune.

“I saw my 22-year-old self getting off a tractor and going to take a shower and putting his work boots back on and going and hanging out with a girl and having a good time dancing or something,” Jon said previously about the song. “And I really connected to the lyrics of it. It’s very country lyrics. It has tractors. It has cutting a rug. My favorite [line]: ‘I can get cleaned up, but I can only get so fancy,’ and I loved it. It was a great written country lyric, and I really think we made it more of a traditional feel with a modern flair to it, and I was really proud of that track.”

Exclusive Premiere: Watch RaeLynn Unleash “WildHorse” Backstage at the Opry Lounge

On Friday, March 24, RaeLynn will release her debut album, WildHorse, a 12-song offering featuring 11-songs the 22-year-old co-wrote.

To gear up for her wild release, RaeLynn stopped by the Grand Ole Opry on Feb. 21 and performed a trio of songs from her new album, including “Diamonds,” “Insecure” and the lead single, “Love Triangle,” which is currently No. 29 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. But her onstage performance was just part of the fun.

Backstage in the Opry Lounge before she stepped foot on the famed Opry circle, RaeLynn unleashed an acoustic version of her album’s title track, “WildHorse,” a personal song that was inspired by a poem her grandmother penned about her mom.

“My Memaw, my mother’s mom, wrote a poem about my mom and it was titled ‘WildHorse,’” says RaeLynn to Nash Country Daily. “It was talking about how she was the good kind of crazy, and there were no fences around her, she was just kind of the girl that kind of did whatever she wanted, but not in a bad way. It’s just like she was her wild horse. My mom found this poem and began to cry. My Memaw and my Pepaw were like the biggest fans of country music. They are smiling down from heaven like no other with me. I mean, honestly, like every time I do anything—my Opry debut dress went into the Hall of Fame, like any of these things that have happened in my life—my mom always says, ‘I wish your grandparents could be here because they’d be so excited.’ I named the song and record after my Memaw.”

Reba Reflects on the ACM Awards as a Past Host and Performer: “Dick Clark Taught Me So Much”

Reba Reflects on the ACM Awards as a Past Host and Performer: “Dick Clark Taught Me So Much”

In the 51-year history of the ACM Awards, Reba McEntire has hosted or co-hosted the show a record 17 times. That’s an astonishing one-third of all the ACM Awards shows.

While she won’t be at the helm during this year’s show—that honor goes to Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley—Reba will be performing during the telecast.

In a Music Choice video exclusive, Reba says that Dick Clark, who had a longstanding relationship with the ACM Awards, was the one who taught her how to be both a host and a performer.

“When you say ‘ACM Awards,’ I think [of] Dick Clark,” says Reba. “He taught me so much as I was not only performing . . . but also he taught me how to get out there and be a host. He gave me lots of chances. I’ve hosted by myself. I’ve co-hosted with other folks, co-hosted with two other co-hosts, so it was a lot of fun, and when you say ‘ACMs’ . . . you think Hollywood and Nashville come together, because he always added movie stars or TV stars to come in and to be a part of it. So to us in the country music business, it was like ‘Oh my gosh, I wonder who he’s gonna get this year?’ and we were all very excited about it too. I miss him so much.”

Watch Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban’s Free-for-All Jam Session

Watch Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban’s Free-for-All Jam Session

Keith Urban laid it down, and Harry Connick Jr. picked it up.

Yesterday (March 22), Keith stopped by Harry Connick Jr.’s daytime talk show, Harry, to chat with the host about a variety of topics, play a game of Celebrity Swipes and treat viewers to a free-for-all jam session in which Keith riffed on his axe while Harry tickled the ivory.

“One of the best parts of being on this show is that I get to play music with my favorite band in the world, and every once in a while we get a special guest, and today it’s my brother Keith Urban,” said Harry. “We’re gonna show you what a jam session is like. We didn’t really work on this . . . ”

“I already forgot the groove,” interjected Keith.

“I did too,” said Harry.

“’Cause we were just jammin’, and I’m like, ‘I have no clue what we’re doing’,” said Keith.

“So we don’t know what we’re about to do. Keith, kick it off and let’s see where it goes,” said Harry.

Watch This Week’s Top 10 Outtakes From Season 12 of “The Voice,” Including Hijinks Between Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan

The Battle Rounds are underway on Season 12 of The Voice, and that means coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys have been utilizing their respective advisors—Luke Bryan, John Legend, Celine Dion and DJ Khaled—to help their team members with song arrangement and stage presence, among other variable.

It just so happens that the addition of the advisors made for some pretty funny outtakes, including hijinks between Luke and Blake, who seems to have a slight problem with profanity.

David Martin Looks Back At the Wide Receiver-Tight End Debate

David Martin Looks Back At the Wide Receiver-Tight End Debate

David Martin / via UTsports.com

David Martin spent 11 years playing tight end in the NFL.

Martin, who played the first six years of his pro career in Green Bay before moving on to Miami and Buffalo, played wide receiver at the University of Tennessee from 1997-2000.

Many Tennessee fans thought at the time that Martin should switch to tight end while he was playing for the Vols. So what led him to decide to make the transition in the NFL?

“I didn’t decide; the NFL decided for me,” Martin said on WNML on Tuesday. “I got drafted as a tight end. … A lot of guys don’t get that opportunity. I just took it and ran with it.”

Martin’s success in the NFL has led to the “what if” discussion with his college career. Martin said he often jokes with former UT coach Phillip Fulmer and his offensive staff members about the wide receiver-tight end debate while he was in college.

“Now that I played tight end, they all say, ‘I told you that you should have been a tight end,’ but I don’t remember that conversation,” Martin said as he laughed. “We talk about it all the time. (Fulmer) claims that he always told me that, but I don’t remember that.”

Martin also talked about his career in the NFL, his transition into coaching as he works on staff at Maryville college and an important event coming up to help Alzheimer’s Tennessee. Listen below.

Martin will be at the Northshore Open on Thursday — a fun gathering for golfers and your first chance to sign up for the 13th Annual Alzheimer’s Tennessee Memory Links Golf Classic on Monday, May 15th at Gettysvue. Thursday’s event, which is free to attend, will last from 4:30 – 6:30. Former Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge will be in attendance from 4:30 – 5:30.
