Listen to Little Big Town’s Jimi Westbrook Take the Lead on New Breakup Ballad, “When Someone Stops Loving You”

With the release of their eighth studio album, The Breaker, one week away on Feb. 24, Little Big Town decided to whet the whistle of anticipation by releasing a new song, “When Someone Stops Loving You,” on iTunes.

Jimi Westbrook leads the vocals in the breakup ballad, crooning in the chorus When someone stops loving you / It don’t make the evening news / It don’t keep the sun from rising / The clock from winding / Your heart from beating / Even when you want it to / When someone stops loving you.

In conjunctions with the release of The Breaker, Little Big Town will kick off their nine-show residency at the Ryman Auditorium on Feb. 24, with additional dates on Feb. 25, May 19 and 20, Sept. 15 and 16, July 28 and 29 and Nov. 27.

Russell Dickerson Talks His Tennessee Roots, Touring With Thomas Rhett, How His 2015 Song “Yours” Turned Into a Wedding Hit & More

Jim Casey talks with singer/songwriter Russell Dickerson about growing up in Union City, Tenn., what he learned while touring with Billy Currington that’s he taking with him on his upcoming tour with Thomas Rhett, how his 2015 song “Yours” turned into a wedding hit and why making his Grand Ole Opry debut was so emotional.

Choice Soundbites From Russell

“We didn’t write ‘Yours’ [as a wedding song]. We weren’t like, ‘Hey, what would they love to hear for their first dance? Perfect first dance song.’ It was just writing an honest true love song. I wrote it with two people that had seen my relationship with my wife from day one, and so it was just this super honest love song and I think that’s what connects with people, is an honest love song because when you meet that one, it changes you.”

“We are looking at a full-length [soon]. I just finished recording vocals last week for the full-length album and it is . . . it’s definitely in the same vein of that very energetic sound. There’s some fun, crazy songs, but there’s also some more serious life songs that . . . some sexy jams in there, you know. I think it’s a very accurate representation of me and my life and where I’m at right now.”

“[From touring with Billy Currington] I learned how he runs his touring business, and we’ve never been treated so well by a staff. Every person on his team was going over and above and I realize that when I have that many people on my touring staff, that that’s exactly how I will run my ship.”

“[Making my Grand Ole Opry debut] was one of the most emotional periods of my musical career because it had been a thing in my head for so long, and we found out at least a month or two before we were playing . . . I had this time to like sit with it and understand the gravity of it because it’s been a thing that I wanted to do for so long, and then as I’m standing there before they call my name to come out onstage, there’s just like tears streaming down my face and I was just like, ‘What the heck?’ I was just like crying and it was just very, very emotional. It had a lot of gravity to it.”

Reba Brings Gratitude, God and Girlfriends to First-Ever Headlining Show at the Ryman Auditorium

Reba Brings Gratitude, God and Girlfriends to First-Ever Headlining Show at the Ryman Auditorium

It’s hard to believe this was the first time Reba McEntire ever played a full show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Dressed casually in a brown fringe shirt, skinny jeans and brown boots—looking ever the superstar—the fiery redhead commanded the historic stage in the first of two performances Wednesday (Feb. 15) during her matinee show.

The concert kicked off with Reba singing an a capella version of Jesus Loves Me,” followed by “I Got the Lord on My Side,” from her new gospel album, Sing It Now: Songs of Faith & Hope—the latter tune written by Reba and her mother, Jacqueline.

“This year marks my 41st year in the music business,” Reba told the audience. “It also marks the first time I ever recorded an inspirational gospel album. I believe that timing is everything and everything happens for a reason and this year is no different. This album is called Sing It Now: Songs of Faith & Hope—I can’t do without those two things,” Reba said choking back tears. “So thank you all so much for the kind reception that we’ve been getting off of this album so far. It’s touched my heart more than you know.”

As Reba wiped away tears, after receiving her first standing ovation of the afternoon for a powerful performance of “Back to God,” she told the crowd that she needed to liven up the show and broke into a medley of uptempo hits like Linda Ronstadt’s “You’re No Good,” “The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter,” “Walk On,” and “I’d Rather Ride Around With You.”

One of the funniest moments of the show came when Reba launched into her 2009 No. 1 hit, “Consider Me Gone,” sensing something was amiss after completing the first verse.

“Hold it, hold it. I came in too early on that song didn’t I?” she said stopping her band. “I’m gonna pull an Adele,” referring to Adele’s performance at the 2017 Grammy Awards where she stopped mid-song during her tribute to George Michael. “I guess if Adele can do it, I can too.” The crowd erupted in laughter and cheers before Reba flawlessly performed the song.

For two hours the Oklahoma native had the crowd in the palm of her hands with songs like “Because of You,” Turn on the Radio,” “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia,” and the oh-so-popular Linda Davis duet, “Does He Love You”—which she performed with her backup singer—during a rendition that brought the audience to its feet for the second time. And while the crowd was hoping for an appearance by Linda, it was not to be. Linda didn’t make it out to the afternoon matinee, but she did grace the crowd during the evening performance later that night, along with Kelly Clarkson, Trisha Yearwood and The Isaacs.

It was songs like “Take It Back,” “Why Haven’t I Heard From You,” “Is There Life Out There” and “I’m a Survivor” that closed out the show for the queen of country.

“Hey, wouldn’t it be funny if Barbara Jean [Melissa Peterman’s character on the TV show Reba] walked out right now? She’s not here but that would be funny,” the singer joked before breaking into the theme song from her popular WB network show, Reba.

After Reba exited the stage, the audience remained on their feet chanting, “Reba!, Reba!, Reba!,” until the legendary singer returned, decked out in a red-fringed sequined dress—reminiscent of her famous 1993 CMA red dress—for an encore of her most recognizable hit, “Fancy.”

There was not a patron left sitting in their seats as they danced in the aisles until the very last note was sung. That’s when the entertainer on the stage, in the fancy red dress, turned and departed into the darkness.

It was at that moment, we were all reminded of the reason Reba McEntire has sustained a career in country music for 41 years—she’s simply the best!

Watch Lady Antebellum’s Rockin’ Performance of “You Look Good” on “Stephen Colbert”

Fresh from scoring an ACM nomination for Vocal Group of the Year, Lady Antebellum made their way to the Ed Sullivan theater in New York City to perform their current single, “You Look Good,” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Thursday night (Feb. 16).

Following a yearlong hiatus to work on individual projects, Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood are set to drop their new album, Heart Break, on June 9, which features the lead track “You Look Good”—the first release from the trio since 2015’s “Long Stretch of Love.”

“We always like to throw curve balls for sure when it comes to singles,” Charles told Nash Country Daily about the new music. “There is a lot on the record that I think people will feel a little more reminiscent of what we’ve done in the past. I don’t know why we always just love to catch people off guard.”

The group will also kick off their new 65-plus-date You Look Good World Tour on May 26 in Bakersfield, Calif., with stops in Phoenix, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Nashville, among others. The tour will also make stops in Europe and South Africa. Kelsea Ballerini and Brett Young will serve as the tour’s opening acts.

Dustin Lynch Reveals Next Single, “Small Town Boy,” in the Middle of the Night

Dustin Lynch Reveals Next Single, “Small Town Boy,” in the Middle of the Night

After teasing his new single with a short video posted to his social media accounts, Dustin Lynch waited until midnight Friday (Feb. 16) to reveal his next single.

The teaser post simply read, “Midnight. Tonight. #STB,” along with a cryptic video.

If you weren’t able to make it until the stroke of midnight for the big reveal, Nash Country Daily‘s got you covered. Dustin revealed in the early morning post that his next single will be “Small Town Boy,” a song he’s already been playing at concerts.

“We’re already performing some of the songs live,” Dustin told Nash Country Daily earlier this month. “I love to test songs live before we record them just because you can see if there’s a connection or not and that’s a big thing for me.”

“Small Town Boy” is the second single from Dustin’s yet-to-be-titled upcoming third studio album and follows his most recent No. 1 hit, “Seein’ Red.” The singer’s previous consecutive No. 1 hits include “Where It’s At (Yep, Yep),” “Hell of a Night” and “MindReader” from his sophomore album, Where It’s At.

While the Tennessee native is already two singles in to his forthcoming album, the release date is still undetermined.

“I’m still working on it and I want to make sure—I’m a couple songs away from really putting the final touches on it,” Dustin said. “I feel confident that what we already have is gonna be really good.”

If “Seein’ Red” and “Small Town Boy” are any indication of what’s to come, we couldn’t agree more.

5 Nominations the ACM Awards Got Wrong, Wronger and Wrongest

5 Nominations the ACM Awards Got Wrong, Wronger and Wrongest

The nominations for the 52nd annual ACM Awards were announced today (Feb. 16), and while artists like Keith Urban, Maren Morris, Tim McGraw and Florida Georgia Line racked up multiple nominations, there were more than a few questionable omissions—as well as inclusions—in the nomination process.

Here are five nominations the ACM Awards fouled up . . . on a scale of Wrong (slight), Wronger (embarrassing) and Wrongest (travesty).

1. Entertainer of the Year nominations

  • Jason Aldean
  • Luke Bryan
  • Florida Georgia Line
  • Carrie Underwood
  • Keith Urban

Guess who’s missing? Reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year Garth Brooks. Based solely on the success of Garth’s stellar tour, I can make the case that he deserved a spot on the list. Plus, he’s the only artist to release an RIAA-certified platinum album in 2016. But alas, no love for the G-man. Perhaps the Academy docked him points for his GhostTunes debacle.
Scale: Wrong

2. Male Vocalist of the Year nominations

  • Jason Aldean
  • Dierks Bentley
  • Thomas Rhett
  • Chris Stapleton
  • Keith Urban

No Blake Shelton? It’s another slight omission. Chris Stapleton—who I love—is still riding the momentum from his 2015 CMA title wave, while Jason Aldean, a deserving Entertainer of the Year nominee, is no pure vocalist. Blake can croon, whether you like his shtick or not, and he dropped two Billboard No. 1 tunes in 2016, “Came Here to Forget” and “A Guy With a Girl.”
Scale: Wrong

3. Vocal Duo of the Year nominations

  • Big & Rich
  • Brothers Osborne
  • Dan + Shay
  • Florida Georgia Line
  • Maddie & Tae

What did Maddie & Tae accomplish this year besides developing a new clothing line? The only single they released in 2016, “Sierra,” peaked at No. 47 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. Meanwhile, LOCASH climbed to the top of Billboard’s Country Airplay chart with “I Know Somebody,” after hitting No. 2 with “I Love This Life.” While LOCASH copped a New Vocal Group/Duo nomination, they deserved a Vocal Duo of the Year nomination.
Scale: Wronger

4. Album of the Year nominations

  • Black–Dierks Bentley
  • Dig Your Roots—Florida Georgia Line
  • Hero—Maren Morris
  • Ripcord—Keith Urban
  • The Weight of These Wings–Miranda Lambert

Yes, Sturgill Simpson besmirched the good name of the ACMs in August with a Facebook rant, but you can’t deny the fact that he released the best country album of the year—sans maybe Brandy Clark’s Big Day in a Small Town, which also got snubbed. How good was Sturgill’s A Sailor’s Guide to Earth? He won the Grammy for Best Country Album and was nominated in the all-genre Album of the Year category. According to the ACMs, that’s not even worth a nomination. Get real.
Scale: Wronger

5. Vocal Group of the Year nominations

  • Eli Young Band
  • Lady Antebellum
  • Little Big Town
  • Old Dominion
  • Rascal Flatts

While it’s probably a moot point because no band will dethrone Little Big Town, how the hell did Lady Antebellum earn a nomination? The trio has been on hiatus the entire year. Seriously, Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley each tackled individual projects—quite successfully, I might add. This nomination is mind-blowing. Inconceivable. Throw Zac Brown Band a bone, why don’t ya.
Scale: Wrongest

Watch Sturgill Simpson’s New Evil-Thwarting Video for “All Around You”

After taking home the Grammy for Best Country Album and performing “All Around You” during the awards show on Feb. 12, Sturgill Simpson has released a new video for the aforementioned song. Directed by Matt Hahurin, the video tackles a few in-the-news topics, including immigration, war and our new president.

The video stars a young boy walking the earth while wearing a superhero-like mask and heart-shaped ring, which transforms into a heart-shaped shield that he thwarts his adversaries with, including a tank, fighter jets and a presidential-looking foe who’s standing atop a wall.

Who’s New: Terra Bella [+ Watch the Debut of Their New Video, “You’ve Got That Somethin’”

Terra Bella

Members: Joe Costa and Martina Costa
Hometowns: Visalia, Calif. (Joe), Wonder Valley, Calif. (Martina)
Lives: Nashville
EP: Road to Forever
Single: “You’ve Got That Somethin'”

You might not think of California as a country music epicenter . . . or MySpace as a place to start a band, but that’s where and how rising country duo Terra Bella—comprised of husband and wife Joe and Martina Costa—began their musical journey together. Now the duo has made its way to Nashville and to country radio with their first single, “You’ve Got That Somethin’.” They’ve also found their way onto some pretty big stages, opening up for fellow country stars like Blake Shelton, Eric Church, Thomas Rhett, Brett Eldredge, Montgomery Gentry and Lee Brice. They released their debut EP, Road to Forever, in 2016.

Boots in the Roots

Martina: “In my family we have big country music fans. I grew up listening to vinyl records with my daddy, singing along to car jams with my mama and listening to the Grand Ole Opry and old western tunes with my grandparents.”

Joe: “My dad plays guitar and sings, my aunt is a middle school band director that can play just about any instrument and is an incredible singer. I also have great-grandparents that played traditional Portuguese music and I would guess there were musicians going back even further.”

California Dreamin’

Martina: “I was raised in a ranching community where we did everything on horseback, so early on I latched onto cowboy songs and songs about rural living because I felt like they were songs about me and my life.”

Joe: “I’m the son of a farmer so I’ve always related to country music. Being from Central California also helped shape my musical taste because it’s home of the Bakersfield Sound. Merle Haggard and Buck Owens are legends everywhere, but it’s a whole different level over there. ‘Mama Tried’ is the reason I started singing.”

MySpace, Your Space

Martina: “I was a competitive karaoke singer wanting to take my career to the next level, so I went to social media and found a Top 8 mutual friend [Joe] who had his own band in a neighboring town. He looked sexy in a cowboy hat and I wanted free guitar lessons . . . eight years later we are still together and very happily married for five.”

Just Write “Somethin'”

Joe: “Our producer [Johnny Garcia] set us up a writing session with a great writer named Josh Dunne. This was the first time we ever met so at first we were all a little quiet and awkward. We started throwing around ideas and Martina had a note in her phone that said ‘you’ve got that somethin’.’ I had a guitar groove that I had been messing with and we decided to run with it. Josh came up with the really cool rhythmic verse melody and we starting tossing around lines about two people noticing each other. The song is basically a fun, flirty pickup line.”

Watch the debut of the new video for “You’ve Got That Somethin’.”

On the Road Again

Joe: “We are really excited to get back on road to play for our fans.”

Martina: “We love what we do and we are so blessed to be able to do it together.”
