Reba McEntire’s New TV Project Gets Green Light From ABC for Pilot Episode

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Reba McEntire’s new television drama from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry was given the green light by ABC to shoot a pilot of the show.

That means that one episode of the series will be filmed to test whether the series will be picked up. But with Reba in the starring role, they can’t go wrong. The hourlong drama is described as a “Southern Gothic soap opera” set in motion after a suspected act of terrorism happens at a Fourth of July parade in the small town of Oxblood, Ky.

“I play a sheriff in a small town and Marc Cherry is the writer, producer, creator, and I’ve just really enjoyed getting to hang with him and my producers from the Reba show and Malibu Country,” Reba tells Nash Country Daily about the new project.

The Hollywood Reporter states that the drama “revolves around Ruby Adair (Reba), the sheriff of colorful small town Oxblood, Ky., who finds her Red State outlook challenged when a young FBI agent of Middle Eastern descent is sent to help her solve a horrific crime. Together they form an uneasy alliance as Ruby takes the agent behind the lace curtains of this Southern Gothic community to meet an assortment of bizarre characters, each with a secret of their own.”

After the cancellation of her last sitcom Malibu Country, Reba took some time to focus on her music and is now ready to get back into acting.

“I told Mindy [Schulteis] and Michael [Hanel], my producers, I am ready now to get back into television,” Reba says. “They were thinking a 30-min sitcom and I was too—that’s what I’m used to. So [my producers] shopped it around and said, ‘Can you take some time to come out to L.A?’ So I went out to LA and had a couple of meetings—nothing that was very productive and [my producer] said ‘We have one more.’ I said, ‘Ok, who is it with?’ She said, ‘Marc Cherry.’ I said, ‘Of Desperate Housewives?’ She said, ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘Ok,’ so we were going to go over to his house. He sat down and gave us the story of this idea of a TV show—the whole first season. I went ‘Oh my gosh.’ It’s in his head. It’s incredible.”

Fingers crossed that the show gets picked up for a full season and we’ll be seeing Reba on the small screen once again.

Watch High Valley Perform “Make You Mine” on the “Today Show”

Watch High Valley Perform “Make You Mine” on the “Today Show”

Brothers Brad and Curtis Rempel of High Valley stopped by the Today Show this morning (Jan. 10) to make their national television debut. The Canadian duo performed their single “Make You Mine,” which is currently No. 23 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. The song actually helped the brothers land a record deal with Warner Brothers in 2015.

“When we were working on ‘Make You Mine’—that was before we had a record deal or anything—thankfully, the song caught enough action on YouTube and on iTunes that all of a sudden record labels got interested,” said Brad to Nash Country Daily. “What we loved so much about Warner Brothers, when they signed us, is they said, ‘Hey, we don’t want you guys to change anything . . . We want “Make You Mine” to be the first single.’ We were overjoyed. You hear all these horror stories of bands signing record deals and all of the sudden losing all control and we have had the exact opposite. We’ve always tried to give our fans a lot of control, and thankfully, Warner Brothers thought that was the smartest way to do it, and they’ve allowed us to keep doing that.”

Seeing Kip Moore Vacation Shirtless Is the Best Way to Kick Off the New Year

Seeing Kip Moore Vacation Shirtless Is the Best Way to Kick Off the New Year

When Kip Moore decided to take time off from his country music career because he needed a break, many of his fans were disappointed. But fear not, thanks to social media we still get to stay connected to the hunky singer.

Kip has been staying active by posting pictures from his “break” on Instagram, as he travels through warm weather climates. The interesting thing about these posts is that the “Running For You” singer keeps showing up shirtless—and that’s a good thing. Kip’s well-sculpted body is something to be admired and enjoyed by the masses.

So, as most of the country goes to work bundled up through the cold-weather months, we can take some time out to live vicariously through Kip while he continues to enjoy his time off and we wait for him to return to the stage.

Fans can look forward to seeing Kip, in person, at the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City on March 3, where he is scheduled to perform. Just one suggestion for the the well-toned singer. Bring the camera in a littler closer. Enjoy!

Keith Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color” Becomes Just the Third Song to Top All FOUR Billboard Country Charts

Keith Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color” Becomes Just the Third Song to Top All FOUR Billboard Country Charts

Last week we reported that Keith Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color” tripled-up by simultaneously occupying the top spot on three Billboard charts: Country Airplay, Hot Country Songs (airplay/sales/streaming) and Country Digital Song Sales.

Well, this week Keith has homered as “Blue Ain’t Your Color” simultaneously occupies the top spot on all four of Billboard’s Nielsen Music-powered charts. “Blue” ascended to No. 1 on the Country Streaming Songs chart to secure the tetradic feat, which has only been accomplished twice before: Jason Aldean’s “Burnin’ It Down” in 2014 and Luke Bryan’s “Play It Again” in 2014.

“‘Blue’ is basically a waltz with a doo-wop feel,” said Keith to Nash Country Daily. “Neither really felt right for me, but there was something in this song that I loved. So we programmed this really cool, simple, drum loop that became the rhythmic bones of the song, providing a yin and yang to the minimalist vocal that I wanted to feature.”

“Blue Ain’t Your Color” is Keith’s 21st Billboard Country Airplay No. 1, placing him sixth all-time—since the inception of the chart in 1990—behind Blake Shelton (22), Alan Jackson (24), George Strait (24), Kenny Chesney (27) and Tim McGraw (29).

Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby Reunite for Select Tour Dates

Country and bluegrass singer Ricky Skaggs has announced that he will be teaming up with old pal Bruce Hornsby for a six-city tour. The legendary artists will collaborate with Ricky’s band, Kentucky Thunder, on original tunes and traditional bluegrass classics.

Bruce Hornsby—recognized for his 1984 band Bruce Hornsby and the Range and being an integral member of the Grateful Dead until 1995—first got together with Ricky in 2007 to collaborate on a bluegrass album called, what else, Ricky Skaggs & Bruce Hornsby, reuniting once again in 2013 to collaborate on the live album, Cluck Ol’ Hen.

“I always get excited when I know I’m gonna get to tour with my good friend Bruce Hornsby,” said Ricky in a statement. “Fireworks always happen!”

“The level of virtuosity required to play bluegrass music with the freaks of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder requires a good deal of practice, added Bruce. “I always have to prepare a good deal, practicing with the metronome at breakneck speed, crazy tempos, to be able to hang with those guys.”

The Ricky Skaggs & Bruce Hornsby with Kentucky Thunder Tour kicks off on Feb. 26 in Tarrytown, N.Y., with stops in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

The 10 Best-Selling Country Albums of 2016 Include Blake Shelton, Keith Urban & Carrie Underwood—But Who’s No. 1?

According to Billboard and Nielsen Music, 2016 country albums sales were down 11 percent from 2015.

Interestingly enough, the top-selling album of 2016—Chris Stapleton’s Traveller—was released in 2015, and so were two other albums in the Top 10: Thomas Rhett’s Tangled Up and Carrie Underwood’s Storyteller. Sam Hunt’s Montevallo was released in 2014.

With sales of more than 1 million albums, Chris’ Traveller almost doubled the sales of its closest competitor, Blake Shelton’s If I’m Honest, which clocked in with 540,000 albums sold.

Carrie Underwood is the only solo female artist to make the Top 10, while Joey + Rory and Florida Georgia Line are the only duos represented.

Jennifer Nettles Hopes Son Magnus Gains Life Experience While on the Road With Her

Jennifer Nettles Hopes Son Magnus Gains Life Experience While on the Road With Her

Jennifer Nettles’ 4-year-old son, Magnus, may be getting a different upbringing than most of us who don’t have a famous singing mom, but the little guy is getting plenty of life experience traveling on the road with her as she tours the country in support of her 2016 album, Playing With Fire.

Magnus is getting to the age where he will start attending school on a full-time basis soon, but until then, Jennifer will keep her little buddy close by her side when out on the road, teaching valuable lessons in the ways of the world.

He will have definitely had practice and experience in transition, that is for sure,” said Jennifer, “in terms of just this lifestyle and how you know when you’re in one place, a different place every day you get a lot of opportunity to practice that. Adaptability. Here’s hoping that that will be a skill that he will garner from this life experience for sure.”

Jennifer wrapped up a busy 2016 with the release of her holiday album, To Celebrate Christmas, and will allow Magnus to adapt to many situations this year as he travels to tour dates with his mom, who will be out promoting her latest single, “Hey, Heartbreak.”

Check out Jennifer’s post on Instagram of her teaching little Magnus how to do a beat-box. The adorable little boy certainly takes after his mom.

Dierks Bentley will open his third Whiskey Row restaurant on Feb. 27 in Gilbert, Ariz., joining previous locations in Tempe and Scottsdale, Ariz.

The new location will include a 4,600-square-foot outdoor patio with space for cornhole and table tennis as well as a large indoor dance floor and stage. The venue will host live music on the weekends.

“When we opened our first Whiskey Row three years ago, I never would have guessed we’d be three bars in, in three years,” said Dierks. “The Riot [Hospitality] Group and I have spent a lot of time making sure each Whiskey Row is our version of the perfect place to listen to music, watch a game or grab some great food and drinks. The vibe is really unique and special, and it’s awesome to see so many people enjoying themselves at Whiskey Row.”

According to Dierks’ Whiskey Row website, he has additional plans to open a Whiskey Row on Nashville’s Lower Broadway in “early 2017,” which would mark the concept’s debut outside of Dierks’ home state of Arizona.

Man! I Feel Like a Woman: Shania Twain the Subject of New Country Music Hall of Fame Exhibit

Man! I Feel Like a Woman: Shania Twain the Subject of New Country Music Hall of Fame Exhibit

Beginning on Jan. 9 and continuing through the week with one announcement per day via social media, the Country Music Hall of Fame started releasing its complete slate of exhibitions planned in 2017 with the proclamation that Jason Aldean would be the subject of an exhibit that opens on May 26 and runs through Nov. 5.

Today (Jan. 10), the CMHOF announced that Shania Twain will be honored with a yearlong exhibit from June 26, 2017, to June 17, 2018.

“It’s an honor to be a part of the Country Music Hall of Fame exhibitions for 2017. Being able to revisit favorite costumes, photographs and memories from my career has been a special feeling, especially as this year will see a new stage for me with a brand-new album!” said Shania in a statement. “I’m very excited to have these important creative moments on display.”

The top-selling female artist of all time—in any genre—Shania remains the first and only female artist in history to have three consecutive albums certified diamond by the RIAA for sales of more than 10 million units each. “The Queen of Country Pop,” a title she definitely deserved to call her own, earned five Grammys, four ACMs and two CMAs, as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
